Chapter 8 softlock
so i got through a portion of the chapter and my current objective is to head to the club. but i have no mission marker on the map and even if i go to where the marker should be nothing happens. anyone know a fix? my only savefile before this point is like chapter 3. i really dont want to have to go back or download someones save file cause that's still a lot of grinding and completions id have to redo

edit: forgot to mention, i also cant see taxi markers on the map or interact with them. and i cant interact with the elevator at the cabaret club

Edit 2: going back inside of ichibans apartment, then going back out triggered the memoir cutscene and taxi prompt a 2nd time and the markers came back and let me progress again

Ah I found a video of it, it's just after going down the stairs after the cutscene: https://youtu.be/zRN-0aVuXSw?si=tk97gUbI6HPMfiFK&t=1990 , apparently, that's also what unlocks the Taxi on the map for Kiryu. If that's what you're missing try going back to the apartment and going down the stairs again maybe ?
thats not what the video shows. it shows the marker already before they even go down the stairs. and once they do they get the prompt about the memoirs and the prompt about the taxis back to back, and once they close it the marker is again already on the map. and i actually watched this video when i was trying to figure out where the marker is supposed to be lol
Sure, but you didn't answer, did you get the memoirs cutscene? Can you see the memoirs spots on the street? Cause if that's what you're missing, that's what you need to trigger. So you can either go back to the apartment, try sleeping there, or anything else, and go down the stairs again in hope of triggering that, or you can try logging a bug ticket. I don't see what other fix would be possible :/

What about autosaves? Or if you have your computer set to make backups every night (everyone does that, don't they? not just me?), what about older autosaves?

I got in the habit of always keeping multiple, frequent saves of every game I play since '90s survival horror game manuals told me to. It's a good habit, because stuff like this happens.

Now is a good time to adopt the habit of saving often, and with multiple save slots. I cycled through 10, with a save exclusively at the beginning of each chapter.

I'm gonna try that tonight but there are no substories on the map. I thought I could switch back to ichibans party but I didn't see a way in the menu yet so idk if that comes later or if you can at all.

I'm honestly surprised quitting to the main menu and restarting the game didn't fix it last night so I'm kinda not very hopeful right now.

Most games don't even let you nowadays or really have soft locking issues like older games would so I'd say it's not the norm lol. Though in rpgs like dragons dogma, persona, etc. I use all the save slots lmao. But all my auto saves were after I finished doing the batting cages part of the main story which is when it broke so they were all a bust. And I had saved over the chapter 7 completion file before realizing it's bugged

I've just never had to playing Yakuza, even when I was emulating 3-5. I just had to save every time I came across one in case it crashed and that was it

so i cant find a way to switch to ichiban so trying to go to dondoko is a no go. I even tried playing one spikeout arcade thing and that did nothing. i guess im just gonna have to redo 5 chapters worth of grinding and subquests

We must play different games as pretty much every game I play lets you make multiple saves, but for those rare exceptions I still make backups from time to time. And I'd actually say it's the newer games that are at risk of soft-locking. Years ago, we didn't have half-finished games rushed out to be patched later after people complain, which happens constantly now. Even if the game will be fine in a month or two, playing it when it's brand new increases the likelihood this type of problem may occur. So even if it's not the norm, it's something easy and worthwhile to protect against.

most games i play are action games and shooters so you only get the autosaves and thats it. but the thing is if an issue comes up like that in an old game there is no fix other than restart which makes it worse (unless its a game with multiple saves/quick saving). whereas with a modern game if it does come up which is still not often, it gets patched. but thats purely for soft locking, modern games have infinitely more problems than a lot of older games did

I play a lot of action games myself and I can't think of anything where I couldn't make multiple saves besides I think Sekiro. But I still have my PC back up everything each night, so even there the most I'd lose is a day. Anyway, it's not really important. Point is, this stuff does occasionally happen, so taking precautions, especially when it's really easy like in this game, would be a good habit.

Oh, did you trying verifying the integrity of the game files? Honestly that's never been the fix for anything for me, but it's always recommended so you may as well.

yep, and uninstalled all my mods. and honestly same, it never fixes anything for me unless a game has issues with deleting/corrupting files when it crashes

just tried reinstalling just for the hell of it, still nothing. that save file is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥. so my playthrough is over 57% of the way through at 67 hours.
