any job is good enough and can inherit elemental or status ailments damage if your weapon is right.
dondoko island is the best way to get money, the better your guests the higher income you receive by the end of each tour. But if you hate dondoko theres castle dungeons. You get tons of money each victory.
Geodes are also sold in travelling wagons, disk exchange rewards from both hawaii and ijincho castle dungeons.
For jobs this is my personal preference,
Ichiban : Hero ( ethereal egesta bat can cause serious ailment (blind and poison), any other valuable skill from other jobs you can inherit to him if leveled up
Saeko & Chitose : Housekeeper ( great water and fire AoE )
Joon gi : Desperado
Tomizawa : Cabbie
Adachi : Breaker
Seonhee : Assassin ( Stentorian whip is awesome )
Zhao : Host
Nanba : Homeless
Kiryu : DoD
Adachi's Arrest can OHKO the Palekena Zealots (the ones that have a big HP bar).
Joongi as a Lineback is OP since he gets a lot of turns to keep getting aggro.
This means that the Chef skill descriptions about being boosted by "status ailmentS" is kinda misleading since it's only ever 2. More importantly that also means you should try to select 2 flavors of ailments to roll with or else your characters may end up interfering with each other, like linebacker's mass rage vs idol mass charm, poison/burn/cold overwriting bleed needed for Samurai and Chef skills.
Also is Zhao's Gangster the only dedicated debuff Job? I'm expecting ailments to become less useful later so I've been looking into debuffs. Weird how many ailment-focused Jobs there are.
Keep playing or go deeper into the dungeons. Upgrade material and money gain rates are tied to levels.
Ichiban: Samurai
Adachi: Linebacker (but I don't use Adachi at all since tanks really aren't needed)
Nanba: Homeless
Tomizawa: Host
Zhao: Chef or action hero
Joongi: Desperado
Saeko: Geodancer
Chitose: Housekeeper
Seonhee: Kunoichi, Tennis Ace, or Housekeeper
My ideal party has Saeko, Chitose, and Zhao because they have the best character exclusive gear.
My go-to is:
Ichiban Sujimancer/Hero (Sujimancer needs A LOT of work. Not only because you need the Kiwami summons, you also need to EXP the Job alot)
Adachi Samurai. All the arrows skills, expeccialy Rain of Arrows and Burning Arrows does nice amount of Damage.
Namba Host (Nice Fire and Ice coverage)
Tomizawa Action Hero
Zhao: Desperado (Amazing AoEs, expeccialy the gun ones, and you get Water and poison coverage with a single AoE)
Joongi The surfist class (I don't know what the name is in English)
Saeko Idol (manly for the AoE heals)
Chitose Geo-Dancer (AoE heal as a kiwami and good damage overall)
Seonhee Kunoichi (Slap some Agility buffs and the clone ability is able to dish out 2500 damage, also Kunai and Shuriken Throw are really nice)
Kiryu: Before Chapter 8 it was Desperado, after Dragon of Dojima with all upgrades
Kiryu: Dragon of Dojima, after you max him out. His insane stats can get more work out of coverage moves than any other character and class. Just need to feed him those MP boosters you find. Making him Samurai and Action Hero makes the most of his stats for a good chunk of the game.
Adachi: Samurai. Not a good character in my opinion. Detective is a bad job, and doesnt provide anything in the way of good coverage moves. His speed sucks, which is the biggest hamstring in these games.
Nanba: Host, with coverage from Homeless and electric move from Aquanaut.
Tomizawa: Cabbie, with coverage from Aquanaut and Host. Cabbie is great, good moveset, can do both physical and magic damage well.
Chitose: Tennis Star. DLC class that is a better Desperado than Desperado. Coverage from Heiress, which is a mediocre stat class but with absolutely fantastic skills.
Seonhee: Tennis Star. Same as Chitose, except much better physical coverage from Assassin instead of support from Heiress. If I ever decide to use both at the same time, would switch Seonhee back to Assassin and use coverage from Tennis Star.
Saeko: Housekeeper, best mage class in the game, I wish Host was more like this. Coverage from Night Queen and Geomancer.
Female Jobs in this game are kind of ridiculous.
Zhao: Gangster. His unique Job is really good, a better Chef. Coverage from Aquanaut.
Joongi: Hitman, with coverage from Desperado and Aquanaut. Not as overpowered in this game, which is a good thing, lets the other characters shine.
1. Craft their ultimate weapon (returns MP when buffed, about 45MP @ maxMP 300)
2. Inherit Essence of Sengoku OR Essence of Showboating (Guarantees 1 buff)
3. Equip Brawler Mouthguard (reduces both Essence to 48 MP)
4. SPAM that ESSENCE every turn
and... well honestly the damage isn't anything spectacular because both essences are only Heavy tier AOEs, but Showboating gives everyone defense buffs so there's that.
*Essence moves don't work on non-humanoid enemies and bosses
Also if you're ever low on MP with Breaker, use Glory Awaits since it returns double the rate which is around 15% of max MP per buff.
Housekeeper is a MUST level for the water AoE attack. The widest non-cinematic attack the women can get, and it puts in serious work. They also get some solid Fire attacks as well, as well as an attack that erases buffs that doubles as a grab. Outside of money vacuum, all their skills have value.
Queen is a really hard hitter, and some of their attacks causes charm which means one less tough enemy to worry about. Their ultimate weapon buffs crit rate upon kills, and one of their grapples buffs Attacks on kills. Also has another grapple where they induce defense down. Their 24 cinematic is a really solid heal with an attack buff.
Kunoichi is undoubtedly the best jobs for women. Insanely fast, with the ability to get Agility from almost anything. Their ultimate weapon also buffs agility upon kills. Their skills get stronger with more Agility under your belt too, as well as having a skill which replaces the Kunoichi's turn with an ally of your choosing. Fire Emblem's dancer if you are familiar with that. Also has a better fire AoE over housekeeper's, except hers buffs agility over burning victims.
Samurai has some solid attacks even without inducing the bleed. I had my Adachi go Samurai with no actual sword for him to equip, and I cleared up to 20 floors with him being my best attacker before realizing he's undergeared. They have a buff where they increase everyone's attack and crit rate, but the range is inferior to Host's version. Burning Arrow is a MUST.
Aquanaut is the Paladins in this game. They have really strong water/blunt based attacks with 2 magic attacks, with one of them being electric. The only non-exclusive job in the game with an electric type skill. They also have a solid AoE heal.
Geomancer is a mixture of both supportive and combative abilities. They have an ability that grants your party regen, and another that can smite a random enemy everytime they get a turn. The thunder ability can be interrupted though. They also have lifesteal attacks which scale from the damage you do.
Host is a magical GOD. Ice Spreader is still busted, they have a dedicated fire attack if for some reason you don't want the Samurai Fire Arrow, and Gold Finger trivializes the game. They can also have skills that can buff attack or magical stat.
Breaker has a lot of buffs going for them. Though it might just be me, but they feel underwhelming. Their ultimate weapon is nothing to sneeze at though, returns MP for everytime you get a buff which is EVERY skill they have. If you have a Breaker, give them supportive skills to keep buffing their team.
Desperato has a solid water-based attack and an AoE, but nothing really stands out for them. Since their attacks are ranged, they don't have to run up to their target, so a fast acting class like Kunoichi.
That's all the experience I have with the classes in the game.
All physical attacking male characters have Beachside Bro-ffet, Burning Arrow, Cutlery Clash, Shadow Dance, and Essence of Sengoku. The 5th non-essence ability is flexible, usually a grapple if they dont have one on their main job. Cutlery Clash does more damage than Shadow Dance until you land the bleed, then Shadow Dance does more damage.
Ichiban: Hero. Solid stat gain across the board, can do everything competently, can make excellent use of coverage moves. True Legendary Hero's Bat is deceptively good, it does the extra damage if you knock them down, not just if they are already knocked down, and just about everything you do this game knocks the enemies down. The real kicker for Ichiban is his ability to do a 4 man Tag Team and use poundmates, both of which trivialize the game to a ridiculous degree. I have ended many boss fights on Ichiban's first turn alone.
Kiryu: Dragon of Dojima. Stupidly high stat gain, DoD also gets a massive spike in power when you do all his awakening levels. Around job lvl 60 the base job's attack and magic will match the stats of +50 7 star weapons, and his awakening shenanigans more than make up for the lack of brands.
Nanba: Host. Male casters are nowhere near as powerful as the Housekeeper, but Hosts at least get a great job specific armor. Beachside Bro-ffet and Homeless abilities as inherited skills.
Adachi: Linebacker or Breaker. I do not like Adachi in this game any more than I do LAD7. He is slow, which is the most important aspect for your characters in combat. Linebacker and Breaker are at least fast jobs, and not terrible in their own right.
Tomizawa: Cabbie. Great job, great 7 star weapon that makes enemies more susceptible to Lightning attacks, which combined with Ichiban using a Lightning weapon - feeds on itself. The job specific armor has the "boost damage to enemy weaknesses" modifier, which is probably the single strongest gear modifier. I have Beachside Bro-ffet (all males use this, so I will stop mentioning it) and Host as the inherited abilities.
Chitose: Tennis Star. Great throughout the entire game, and only gets better with the 7 star weapon and job specific armor. Weapon gets increased crit chance, which is always great, armor has a moderate chance of boosting attack every turn. Just solidly great. Aperitifs, Violino Adagissimo, Triple Corsage, Deluge of Stars, Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Saeko: Housekeeper. Tied with Dragon of Dojima as the most overpowered job in the game. Amazingly good moveset, insanely good 7 star weapon and excellent job specific armor. Weapon has the "boosts damage to enemy weaknesses" modifier, best in the game. Armor has a chance of increasing magic each turn, extremely good. Magical Concert, Kumu Hula Corkscrew, Blossoming Uliuli. Doesnt even matter what the other inherited skills are.
Seonhee: Assassin. Extremely good physical class, might be better off as Tennis Star, but that is already taken, and Assassin has it's own advantages. Not a particularly good 7 star weapon, but the job specific armor is amazingly good with inherited abilities from Kunoichi. Magical Concert, Frenzied Forehand, Deluge of Stars, Shadow Clone Jutsu, Essence of Doubles Trouble.
Zhao: Gangster. Second best male physical attacker job. Honestly, I feel bad for Zhao, he is insanely good, but Ichiban cheats, Kiryu is Kiryu, and the female characters can all break the back of the game like they are Bane. Zhao feels too fair, good but not broken. Gangster's 7 star weapon makes it so nothing resists their attacks, which is extremely good, doesnt reach the heights of the "boosts damage to enemy weaknesses" but it the best modifier for consistency. You can use the best abilties without worrying about hitting a resistance. Job specific armor is also great, boosts damage when full health. Good for alpha striking trash mobs, and the first turn of boss encounters.
Joongi: Hitman. Kind of a bummer he joins so late, his unique job got nerfed, and female characters and Tomizawa have the vastly superior mage jobs. Host Joongi was the most overpowered character in LAD7 in my opinion. His 7 star weapon is bad, cant rely on status ailments on bosses. Armor grants 25% evasion at full health, which is okay I guess. Overall just meh. Given his speed, at least better than Adachi as a physical attacker and Nanba as a mage.
Joongi: Works really well as a backstab fisher due to his free crit hitman skills. I have him as an Action Star since the ultimate weapon has a passive physical boost. The extra damage received is lessened by Joongi's unique armor (+25% evasion at max HP) and Accel Step. If you can't fish a backstab during a turn, use Relentless Dragon Dance instead. If you still can't backstab, then unload the Relentless buff with the hitman high crit gun skills.
Seonhee: Again, a backstab crit fisher. I have her as a Tennis Ace so you can make her a gun specialist. The difference from Joongi is that the Tennis ultimate allows her to clear out mobs early in the fights. When you're down to 1 enemy then start fishing backstabs with her assassin skills. If you can't backstab, use Substitution Jutsu. I prefer to use her own exclusive armor over the Ace's, random agi buff provides more utility than an attack buff
Nanba: The magic buff from the Homeless ultimate weapon is surprisingly powerful even with 1 enemy, and negates his mediocre armor perk. Weapon element also converts the pigeon skills to fire secondary so you can focus on making him a fire dmg specialist. Fire resistance debuff is an added bonus but I don't depend on it, I suppose you can build it on long fights using the pigeon skills. Rose Stinger is recommended for focused damage. Jellyfish and Cloudburst for elec and ice coverage.
Since Seonhee and Nanba are dmg type specialists, I switch them in and out of Kiryu's party depending on resistances.
Zhao: I can't decide if he is better as Gangster or Breaker. Gangster's ultimate weapon and his armor makes him look like a 2nd Aquanaut at a glance, but the difference is that Gangster doesn't have a single damage type you can focus on boosting so the resistance negation is not as significant. Meanwhile as a Breaker he has a unique heal over time that provides a buff = MP recovery = infinite uptime. If you equip a Paireo of Happiness, all the self-buff attacks will also provide HP recovery in-turn maintaining Zhao's armor perk.
