Ending Discussion [Spolier]
Anybody else feel a bitter taste where they could not let go of Kiryu? The trailers showed it, the game showed that Kiryu had a clock ticking. I can't really explain it because I have so many questions at this point that they can maybe answer in the next game???

Since Kiryu is deciding to take treatment, is Daidoji gonna back off since they can't keep Kiryu in a leash anymore since he's already exposed from the media and news alike thanks to Ebina? Can he be left alone and spend time with his family in Okinawa?

Idk Game was fun, gameplay was great, did a lot of the side quest, bucket list, finished the dondoko island side business and got Everyone to Max

At this point there's so much to question what would be the next story. I'm hoping to finally close Kiryu's story since he wants to take another chance at life and realistically there shouldn't be anything coming after him anymore.

This game Did open up the doors for Ichiban but im hoping the next game can close for Kiryu and let him enjoy his time with his family in Okinawa since he's taking the chance to go through with his treatments to live longer. I'm hoping that Kiryu can just be looking on the side lines if Ichiban is in trouble. Idk I just don't want them to kick a dead horse. Let Ichiban Cook. Kiryu's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up many times and Ichiban should be able to handle that ♥♥♥♥ by himself too.

Maybe he's cured an all good in the next game, maybe he isn't, time will tell. I personally think he may get cured but he'll be a "side" main character like for example the 'Jimas are, occasionally showing up to aid Ichiban but that's it.

As much as I loved the game as a whole the ending did leave me wanting. Kinda wanted more closure with Ebina/Bryce, Akane/Lani, maybe one more nod towards Yamai, etc.
I kind of hope that in the next Kasuga game Kiryu fulfills the role of the elderly mentor for Ichi. Granted he's already been that to him, but I think seeing him in a weakened, post-chemo state passing on his knowledge and wisdom would be a good next step for Kiryu.

this is a copy/paste on another "ending discussion" thread I posted earlier. I think it applies here as well:

I’ve never had any Yakuza story piss me off so bad before. And that’s after playing 6.

They could’ve done so much better giving Kiryu a proper send off. While I’m sad to see Kiryu go, I would love to see him get the peaceful family reunion he deserves.

Sure he made such stupid decisions to cause the separation in the first place. And he was a major hypocrite to the Tojo Trio by calling them cowards for not fighting when he literally abandoned the clan multiple games ago.

But he’s an icon in the series. An idiot, but a lovable one. The writers really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it all up. I hate that this is my opinion of Infinite Wealth’s writing. But that’s just how the awful writing made me feel.

this isn't rage bait, by the way. this is my genuine opinion. some people say they truly disliked the ending for what it is, others didn't mind. at this point, Kiryu is just an old man that is having his life prolonged needlessly. he deserves to have ... the eternal rest for living a long life of fighting and suffering.

this game was supposed to be the game to tie the knot on his saga and have the meaningful reunion with Haruka, the other orphans and his old friends from the past games. but the writers just had their microscopic ♥♥♥♥♥ hell bent on spewing out the worst, most inconsistent reasons to prevent Kiryu from getting those reunions.

I enjoyed the gameplay and a fair majority of the story a lot. but boy did I start getting more increasingly irritated as the game progressed once you take control of Kiryu and do his social links with Date.

I'd hardly call them reasons, its more because they just felt like it.

Whoopsie daisy, Kiryu got exposed to the world so everyone knows him, Daidoji still doesn't want him going around his loved ones, oh wait a minute he magically got his name back in the ending for no reason at all.

You summed up how I feel about this game perfectly here:

I agree with this. At the very least there should have been an appearance at the end by Chitose, given she was a party member and been with you since chapter 3.

What would that change?

There's a minor inconsistency regarding Kiryu's story that kind of bothers me, and it's in relation to the final Date Life Link correlating to the very ending cutscene of the game.

In the Date Life Link, The Daidoji made him swear that he was dead again, right? So he did that.

Then he just goes back to reclaiming his name anyway in the ending.

There's two outcomes I'm going to conclude from this incident.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
A: The obvious one - His leash to the Daidoji was removed because Sega game.

B: The More Logical one - He just stopped caring and took his life back finally after nearly the entire cast of the game telling him to do so, and finally was convinced to make a decision for himself for once.

The further issue with Option B is that he likely will have to go to Prison if he survives treatment because of the fact that faking your own death is obviously illegal lol.

But the other fact that might make both A and B more concrete is the fact that Haruka even went to the Hospital and found he was there. That provides some form of Proof that regardless of which outcome occurred above, the Daidoji had to have let go in some way that is not revealed or explained (at least not yet for all we know)

I'll offer an explanation:

The Date Life Link is the last one you do in the game, and after that point you're not allowed to see Date or any of Kiryu's old friends. By that point, Kiryu being alive is just rumors and speculation as far as the people who knew him are concerned. Kiryu promises to the Daidoji guy that he's done pushing his luck with the faction.

Kiryu has proved time and time again to be an agent who gets things done and who can keep his word. In Gaiden his little stunt with Hanawa put them at risk, but it also procured them 50 billions yen in assets. In 8, he uncovered a conspiracy with the help of Ichiban and successfully brought Lani and Akane back to Japan.

The ending scene takes place a month after the final fight, Kiryu looks sick, thin and frail, and is about to start undergoing LINAC. This is my theory, but as far as I'm concerned it makes perfect sense - the faction let Kiryu go since there's no point in hiding him anymore, and killing him would only raise suspicion from the public, so they just let him go because they have no use for him anymore.

Being Someone who has seen cancer treatment and what it looks like vs Someone who has late stage cancer and didn't get treatment, Kiryu looks like he's been getting treatment longer than just it being his first Round in that ending CS. Looks like his 4th run at least. The giveaway i see for that is that his hair and facial hair are starting to become a significant amount thinner from Chemotherapy, and his facial complexion also screams Chemotherapy to me.

I definitely agree with the Faction letting him go because there's no point in hiding him anymore though, that's what i was thinking regarding Option A.

The whole point of Kiryu part was to show him how great life is and that he should take care of himself, ending was alright, If someone expected Kiryu to just die at the end then sorry, but there was no chance that Yokoyama will kill Kazuma just like that. Atleast we know that Kiryu will NEVER fight again.

The ending was really weak compared to LaD7. LaD7 had more resolve while this one was left way too open. Ichi and Saeko make up to just have Saeko storm off again. Kiryus ending is cryptic at best and I think he will be returning for sure in the next game probably fighting too. Cause hes pushing 60 and had been given 6 months to live but hes still able to sprint across a city and then get in a fight immediately afterwards.

The ending should have been Kiryu gets his old life back and retires in peace and gets to reunite with the kids from Sunflower. His ride off in to the sunset. Something meaningful.

But now we will have to wait another 3 years to see what happens.

The game itself is pretty mid. The story was stupid and it wasn't believable. I didn't find myself caring for any of the characters and often skimmed through the dialogue a lot of the time. Wasn't a bad game by any means but it wasn't the epic saga I was hoping for.

Plus the minigames this time rounf are some of the weakest imo. I finished Dodonko Island because I knew there would be a payday at the end of it then I never touched it again.

What was up with Saeko and Ichi anyway. As far as I remember there was no romance between them in LaD7 then all of a sudden Ichi is in love. It was kinda thrown in there. I'm happy to see them get together but it was clearly forced out of nowhere.
