Ichiban & Kiryu's relationship (potential spoilers)

In LAD7 and Gaiden, Kiryu made a point to emphasize he was now "Joryu". Ichiban understandably did not recognize him due to being in jail himself. My question is: from the beginning of Infinite Wealth, Ichiban starts calling him "Kiryu". He was also very chummy with him, and I don't recall in either game that he was that close to him at all.

When in either game did he find out he was Kiryu? Was this closeness done offscreen?

I made it through chapter 5 and I have a feeling the game is not going to address it so I thought I would ask here. I'm going off memory here for LAD7, and I know for sure this relationship was not touched upon in Gaiden. I'm just wondering if I missed or forgot a scene that addressed this.

Gaiden retconned a little bit of 7. He talks like they were way friendlier/some events seemed to happen in a slightly different order. I'm not sure why but it might have been part of that.

Ichiban uses Keigo towards Kiryu. He talks to him in a very different manner than he does to Nanba or Adachi.

Also the english translation makes it look more chummy by adding a lot of things that aren't said.

Thanks for the responses. I did not know about the difference in speech (Keigo), as I rely on the subtitles. I appreciate the explanations.

I feel the same about Saeko and Ichiban. They had a thing for each other but from what I remember there was no chemistry between them like that in LaD7?

This games story certainly feels forced in a lot of ways

Ikr, maybe I forgot because it's been so long, but I remember Nanba having a crush on Saeko (not sure if implied or mentioned), but not Ichiban.

I know in 7 you had substories for ''dating'' some of the female characters but that's as far as it goes, I don't remember them being in love mentioned at all

Yeah, thats what i was saying. All Kiryu was to Ichiban was some random dude who showed up on the street, stopped him killing someone and thenb eat the crap out of him and his party presumably in seconds with how the post cutscene happens after the kiryu boss fight and then he ♥♥♥♥♥ off.
