The Big Swell: Is it worth it? [No spoilers, please]
So I'm just starting on chapter 13 having invested well over 70 hours into the game, and I'm having a blast. One thing I'm still undecided on though is whether it's worth grabbing that vacation DLC that the postgame dungeon's locked behind.

I'm willing to justify the expenditure in that 'the game's given me my money's worth and then some', but I want to know if there's any actual meat/content to this dungeon. If it's just another semi-random dungeon like Hawaiian Haunt or Yokohama Underground, that doesn't seem worth the investment. But I can't look into it too deeply without risking spoilers for the endgame, so I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on it from people who've already made it that far.

So. Big Swell. Is it, in fact, swell? Or just a Big disappointment?

The dungeon itself is ok at best - Enemy types from both base game dungeons, reused bosses with slight changes and the same random dungeon generation. The story it provides is decent tho, the whole group enjoying some time on Hawaii.
I think its only worth the money if you really enjoy the game and the interactons within the group.

Umm.. Now that you are on the fact. Are the others worth doing? They are the only thing I haven't done yet.

If you enjoy the combat and want to max out your party's power for self-satisfaction, the Big Swell provides all the necessities; ridiculous amounts of XP, and an exchange point for item upgrades.

If you also intend to get all Steam achievements, you must buy the vacation DLC. The 4 achievements are locked behind NG+, and NG+ is locked behind the vacation DLC.
Since the Legend difficulty requires Lv 75+ to properly continue, you will need to farm in the Big Swell for a while before starting NG+.

Otherwise, you might find it unappealing, as it doesn't add anything important to the storyline. However, since I enjoy the combat and grind in the game, I find the Big Swell a good addition.

Wait for a sale. Whatever you do, don't pay full price.

It's literally just Underground Dungeon 3. It's very much like the final millennium tower from the last game, right down to the thought entity versions of bosses from the main story. The only thing about it that makes it different from the other dungeons is the interludes. The start of the dungeon and each section completion will have pretty amusing cutscenes.

I genuinely don't understand why they charged for this. It's locking another dungeon and what's equivalent to a couple substories behind a huge price wall.

It was my understanding that Hard and Legend both had completio achievements, and that beating Legend didn't unlock Hards achievement.

Some people reported that saving before the final boss, beating it on Legend, and loading said save with difficulty reduced to Hard allows you to get both achievements. Meaning, you don't need to play the entire game thrice.

They haven’t even bought the DLC yet. Asking for opinions on whether or not they should spend even more money on a $70 product is more than fair.

♥♥♥♥ you and ♥♥♥♥ off. [:

I liked it, but 20 euros is pretty steep.. would happily recommend it at 10, the fan service is really great, the story is funny.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I finished the game a few days ago and based on what I've heard I'm definitely gonna hold back on the DLC unless it's a lot cheaper. More party interactions sound fun, but not enough to justify the price tag.

I wouldn't have been as annoyed if it was just a side story and there was other postgame content to play through, but there's...zero postgame content outside of the DLC. I really got the impression that the last act of the game was rushed, and not having anything to play through once the credits roll left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I still enjoyed the game overall, but it sucks that they're charging for stuff that would normally be in the base game. Here's hoping the backlash means they won't try this again for the next title.
