how do you get the " somewhere over the rainbow achievement "

the achievement that is, taking a photo of a rainbow in hawaii. Im assuming its after a rainfall but I'm not too sure. anyone got any idea is it random or specific timing?

Also whats is the big swell achievement?

There's a random NPC couple in the south part of the Anaconda Shopping Center exit where they talk something like
"Hey look a rainbow!"
"What? There's no rainbow?"
"But it was just there..."
So I assume that's the spot where the rainbow appears after a rainfall but I didn't get it myself yet either.

The big swell is the bonus dungeon included in the DLC With NG+ I believe so probably clearing that.

ah okay. thanks for informing me that! im suprised there are ppl actually getting that achievement. btw that shopping center, is that at the beach or in the city?

You can get rainbow by waiting the rain to finish at Aloha Beach, not any other places.

rainbow appears after rain in the game just look towards the sky when the rain die down. I took a picture near jeffs taco truck facing the river

It's not misinformation, that's where I personally got the achievement. You can get it in other places, sure, but you absolutely can get it where those NPCs are talking about the rainbow, and that's probably the intention of the developers. I actually didn't know there was an achievement for it, I just assumed that maybe you'd take a picture of it and show it to the NPCs and they'd say something, but sadly, that isn't the case.

Its fine. I got it just now. There are some factors that go into it though.

1 thing for sure, if you are in the middle of the city and it rains and if u take a picture of it, I believe it doesnt work. My first try was in the city and took a picture of it at a distance. Didnt pop the achievement. Have to go to the beach and see the ocean/sky to achieve it. That being said, I think going north will work too, as someone got his at Jeff truck there.

Also there is a chance that this entire rain occurring might happen after a battle. I dont think its time based but I'm testing it out

I got it by being at the beach after it rained and there was a rainbow over the ocean.

I swear it feels impossible to get it. It just doesn't rain, no matter how long I wait or for how long I walk. Any advice?

I can one hundred percent confirm that I got my achievement after the rain on the beach around the restaurant with the pool area. It was over the ocean. Unfortinately I have no idea how to trigger the rain, like other things its probobly all about running over and over until it triggers, doubt it can rain by standing and waiting.

I did some testing. You can take my word for it or not. Was planning to make a guide but got lazy instead.

Long story short, its base on time in game. I manage to save a file before it rains and everytime I load it, after 10 mins+ ( on that save file ), it will rain. How long it takes, I still dunno. My best bet is somewhere between 30 mins - 45 mins. Fightning mobs or leveling your party or picking up stuff wont matter at all.

Now here is the kicker, it can rain at any part of the city. Sometimes it rain in the middle, sometimes north, sometimes south. And to my knowledge, taking the picture either north or south will give you the achievement ( south being the best since most ppl got it there in Aloha Beach ). I did try once to take picture when I was in the middle of the city and saw the rainbow but it didnt trigger the achievement.

So this is the best solution you can do. Put your game under 640x840p or whatever window resolution, stand at the Aloha Beach at a place where there is no mobster, make sure the entire party is on the sand ( I dont know why but twice, 1 person wasnt on the sand and it just didnt trigger, just playing safe ) and just wait while watching Youtube or something. If you want to play safer, every 10 mins, just save the game.

Go to Jeff's Taco Truck, then go west until you see the fisherman by the water. Fish with him (or just wait there) until the rain starts. The rainbow will appear directly in front of him on the other side of the pond!

I waited at the beach for rain, photographed a rainbow there, and it did not count for me. The one at Jeff's/fisherman worked first try.

Confirmed. This worked perfectly. Give it a little time between fishing attempts. The sky will start to cloud over. I also got some party dialog about the squall when it started pouring down. The rainbow will show up as soon as it ends. Got the achievement on first try.
