I'm enjoying every second of Infinite Wealth though.
It's basically stats porn. Play a real RPG with Persona, that's a good game.
Y8 feels like playing a JRPG from the 90's but not the good ones, the very janky and boring ones. There's no strategy, no challenges it's just a brain-dead game.
The stretched and repetitive story was already annoying in modern yakuza with gameplay but here it's even more of a pain.
The gameplay loop of this small empty sandbox with PS2/PS3 re-used assets for the xx time is just :
- Loading the game
- Loading the save
- Walk to GPS point
- Loading
- Skip cutscene "intro"
- Another loading
- Skip irrelevant cutscene
- Another loading
- Watch the only relevant cutscene (The ones that aren't in-game.)
- Another loading
- Fight start, group of random PS2 animated goons, EXTREME GAMEPLAY NOW, Press 1 button to select an AOE on the over powered class and One shot everyone. GG
- Another loading
- Skip conclusion cutscene
- Another loading
- Watch the only relevant cutscene that forward the plot a tiny bit or repeat the previous important cutscene cause gamers are now retarded.
- Loading
- Go to next GPS point
Repeat till the end of the game with the only variation that are Boss fights who takes just a 30 minutes spam of your highest cost skippable cutscene moves until they die. No strategy, no healing required, nothing. Might use MP item if you forgot to refill the bar cause of the goons one shot.
I've seen less loading screens on my PS2 games than this. Good god.
I do wish it wasn't quite so level based though. You have no chance against guys more than a few levels above you. It would be nicer if strategy mattered more than level
I've beaten kiryu games with the same punch and side-step move I learned at the beginning of the game....
Just for funnsies to see if I could do it. .....I beat boss fights and the last boss fight in Gaiden just by using those jet shoes.
Never needed to throw a single punch or use health items.
Another reason they're doing this is because they wanted variety. 7 was a huge breath of fresh air because despite being yet another LAD title, it was a whole different game
I get where you're coming from though, I feel similarly about Final Fantasy which has done the opposite. Can't stand the combat in those games anymore despite it being a franchise I used to love.
