Yeah I don't know what to think of it, I'm not a fan.
Seriously, there's no way they'd just give him his name back without explaining a thing, there are only assumptions. Sure at this point he may be useless for jobs but he still knows the secret.
Because either the cancer should have killed Kiryu or the Deidoji.
Why you may ask?
Simple, it does not matter if he is "not useful" to them anymore or not.
The original deal in Yakuza 6 (where Kiryu faked his death in the ending) was made because Kiryu knew the secret of onomichi (or whatever the city was called) and all the participating people in that conspiracy.
They would still off him BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE SECRET, no matter if the world knows he is still alive or not.
Another kicker which makes this ending trash is: if you complete his dragon memories, the last one is a supposed meeting with haruka which he does not do because he hears her talking things like "I wouldn't be able to look him in the eyes, I'm not strong enough yet" and Date is being curbstomped by the Deidoji for trying to make the meeting work.
After stomping some Deidoji goons, they make him RENEW THE CONTRACT with him.
Well that's a load of barnacles.
I REALLY hated the ending ebcause it made everything kind of pointless, ESPACIALLY the dragon memories.
Because since he didn't die and is obviously free from the daidoji for whatever unexplained and non sensical reason, he can now meet with everyone anyways.
So why make me go trough 15 hours of stat grinding if it does not amount to anything in the end when you think about it.
Oh and Ichibans ending was just honestly whatever, a FAR fall from the emotional and almost perfect ending in 7.
His whole story was really just meh.
cancer on the other hand, is really bad, and TBF, premium advanture dosent really say it was post cancer treatment, so if he survive the treatments and process is still unknowen, he looked in a very bad shape in the wheelchair, and personally, a youtuber i liked watching happened to die of cancer last year after a week or 2 where the last tweet he said he is doing fine and nothing to worry about, it should probebly be a survay with the fans if they want kiryu to survive the treatment and still be in the series either as playable character or a side character.
I can get behind that train of logic, but IF that really is the reason why he can regain his name, they did a ♥♥♥♥ job showing/explaining this.
Also, as how the Deidoji faction is shown, I doubt they would just let him live with the "let's just have faith in that he will keep the secret to himself" as a shadow faction and all, I honestly think they would rather exterminate the possibility than having "faith" in Kiryu.
akyama can do stuff behind the scenes, date could tell everyone from the lifelink the truth, they just can't go and off that many people, especially whoever saw the online stuff from multiple idiots with selfie sticks showing kiryu, the secret is out and they can't do anything to undo it.
The mantel is finally passed to Ichiban for good. I think too many people would have hated Kiryu dying so cheaply to cancer or the Daidoji, he will eventually die once people get used to Ichiban being the main character for good now, so maybe a couple of games it will happen.
in the Date sub stories, they eventually get caught and Date nearly gets killed by the Daidoji. they go on about how Kiryu broke their promise and want to make him pay.
in the main story... they're not too happy that Kiryu got exposed, but he's still commended for his work and is still provided support.
maybe it was only for the sake of the mission and the mission alone, but the guy who showed up at everyone's get together sounded kind of soft about it, like he had some respect for Kiryu.
overall I wasn't happy with this ending. the writers just did not want Kiryu to have a proper reunion with Haruka. god, the excuses felt so lame.
Like I said, all valid points, but IF that is really the reason for his retrival of his name, then the game did a HORRIBLE job giving that information to the player, because nothing of that sorts is outright stated.
He just got his name out of nowhere back again and that's what bothered me, espacially since we had an entire game before infinite wealth where we were showned how merciless the Deidoji actually are and how seerious they are about everything regarding kiryu.
Just not a fan of the story in this game
