It's basically an easy mode in the form of DLC consumables.
I'm still a long way from finishing IW, but from what I've heard, the difficulty curve is much more natural this time around.
While this is true, the game does try to instill a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) in the player by presenting an absurd of amount of options that the can only access right away if they spend real money.
I'm talking about areas that are locked behind personality levels, party level, and shops that require a ton of money and materials that you can't easily get at the start. Not to mention gating easier ways to get money and whatnot with story progress.
In the end I agree that it's on the player to ignore the lure of paying to access things you will eventually access by playing regularly, but I can also see how the game design is conducive towards making players feel like they should spend money to progress faster. Intentionally or unintentionally.
now I switched to GOD mode just to finish this game in the hope infinite wealth is better balanced.
You do not need to be level 50 to beat the Chapter 12 fight in Yakuza 7. You can beat it while being quite a bit underlevelled compared to the bosses. It's a big difficulty spike, but grinding is just a way for you to sidestep actually being smart with the fight. You do not ever need to grind in Yakuza 7 until after the main story has already concluded.
By doing the side quest, some mini game (social + photo(damn we are only5%)) and picking up items, you are easily overpowered for story quest.
There is still some "hard" fights with side quest when you are below IA level:
- Asakusa is a one on one fight and he's hitting hard.
- Sojimaru can also be hard because of its good pool of HP
- Early Tomisawa last friendship quest
Poundmates, rockets (expensive but worth it if you know whre to find the pnj) and all those grenades I picked up were really helpful.
When it is flashing red ! Guard is a good option.
Don't forget accessories that boost leveling and items (can be purchase with money game or trade during mini games).
If other players doing only story quest found the game too hard or grindy, feel free to express yourself :)
