Does your current sujimon roster affect your sujimancer abilities at all?

I'm level 25 with a team of level 40 sujimon. I just switched Ichi's job to sujimancer, and I am underwhelmed. When I use the fire attack, it summons the same blonde guy instead of my level 40 demon guy.

Does your current squad have any affect at all on your sujimancer abilities?

you have to equip the sujimon you want to use in gear screen.

and obviously you can't use DLC chars because otherwise there'd be situations of summoning characters in your party for instance which makes no thematic sense.

Also equipped sujimons are basically just a visual and a stat associated like it would be a weapon for that one attack.

They don't bring their ability or anything. I barely touched the job for now but I assume it can be pretty broken with the right grind.
