Why is Kiryu's voice so awful? I mean seriously maybe the all time WORST voice acting ever.

It sounds like a middle schooler trying to call in sick by lowering their squeaky voice trying to sound like their dad. I'm at a loss for words how awful it is.

This is maybe the single worst voice acting I've ever heard in my entire life.

I don't even want to play past chapter 3 it's that terrible.

Personally, I plan to play the game in English when I do my second playthrough, because with a single conspicuous exception, the English voice cast is excellent. Which isn't a surprise—dubbing is pretty good nowadays. This is a legitimate complaint about something that poisons the well.

Solutions are forthcoming. Somebody already reiterated Kiryu's dialogue with Daryl Kurylo's voice. It's not a perfect solution since it is still fundamentally the same acting as the original dialogue, which is half the problem. But it's a good temp solution to this major issue.

Yeah, he has been trying to get into Voice Acting for a while now, but he just wasnt ready for the Role. He then started Dressing up as Kiryu at Cons and just let his Ego run away Censoring any Criticism of his VA of the Character. For such an Important Role they should have gotten a Veteran VA.

I believe that this was a joke on them gaijins. We all true connoisseurs know that JP voicing is both canon and true quality.

I thought the English voice cast in Yakuza LAD was perfect. For some reason in the sequel there seems to be a noticeable drop in quality in choosing the right voice actor for the role. So far, I am not that big of a fan of Kiryu's and Tomizawa's English voice. Picking the Japanese audio is also a bit strange since you're in Hawaii and only hear mostly broken English or straight up Japanese on Caucasians, especially in chapter 2. My ideal would be a mod that adds in all the native English speakers in the Japanese audio version whenever English is spoken.

Yong was a solid choice, you can see it in few of his lines. Like how you first encounter him.

i think the bigger problem is the direction. Most of the time, you hear Yong's actual voice. He's shown he CAN do a good Kiryu voice... he opts not to do so for some reason. Thinking his ego is the problem here

Ignoring every valid complaint that's fundamentally an opinion, I personally would never be able to get past how the guy has decided that the trick to sounding like a tough guy with a low voice is to exhale at the end of every sentence. Listening to that is like watching somebody speak, except at the end of every sentence, he does something stupid and irritating like sticking his tongue out.
