Localizers are still trash, as expected
As usual, they're discarding the original dialogue so they can make up new lines. Didn't take long at all to spot examples.

Like when Kasuga is talking to the punk after he got his money back for him, the subs say, "Well, that all depends on you." Whereas what he spoke in Japanese was, "I will of course do my very utmost (to help)."

Looking forward to another RGG game filled with moments where the only defense against their localizing team's penchant for reinventing dialogue is for the player to understand enough Japanese to muscle through that bull----.

The game was localized by Katrina Leonoudakis. What do people expected?
This is the first I've heard of Leonudakis being involved in this game. Apparently her resume claims she was a "Localization Engineer" on "Like a Dragon: Ishin", but doesn't have this game listed [1]. I checked her Twitter and the only reference to "Like a Dragon" I found was her retweeting the lead translator [2]. Everything else was on Persona 3 Reload or random twitter crap.

Is there any evidence that Leonudakis is involved in this game because it's interesting if true, but I can't find any information to confirm such a claim.

Oh, ma bad.

It's still likely her colleagues working on this game, and these people shared the same agendas anyway.

Well their is a reason to avoid Sega games now they hire the worst Localization in the industry one of them did a manga got caught then the publisher had to have the manga relocalized and reprinted

Forget the multiple variations orinterpretations of sorry and thanks

was someone at localization a fan of Kiryu coco?

If that's so they made Kei even more unlikable by spewing stuff that she used to say when she was a vtuber, it sucks

the fact that you don't get how almost 2/3rd of her dialogue are already just references to her career as a vtuber even without the "cringey" things she says amazes me
they literally just put kson/ coco in the game as basically herself, it makes sense that she says things that she says
♥♥♥♥ even in game it says that she streams games

>you don't get
Im complaning about it smartass try reading first

I thought that they respected the vtuber past life well excep if she is in a game, sad that kei has no personality that is not being the unfunny vtuber/streamer

you apparently aren't a big fan of either of her incarnations, she acts like this for both kson and coco, it's literally just her in the game, down to her fangirling of kiryu at as many opportunities as possible, im not sure how you don't understand this.
fans of her probably really like this, me included, if you don't find her style of humor funny ignore her component of the game

Man, it's funny seeing this process play out over and over again.

1) A long-running series gets a high-profile new entry
2) a Youtuber with no background in the series tries it for the first time
3) his sweaty jowls redden and jiggle with rage as he realizes it has POLITICS (ie, basic decency), which he claims is some new thing to the series
4) he calls the banners and sends his incel army, who have also probably never played the game, to march to the north
5) it takes forever for them to get anywhere because they're all riding Rascal scooters and they have an extremely neurodivergent argument about whether he meant true north or magnetic north
6) they never arrive, nobody misses them, game sells millions of copies

The localization for LAD8 is exactly like the ones for 0, Kiwami 1 and 2, Judgment, etc etc. Same freewheeling adaptation of slang, same sense of humor, same everything. People would know that if they'd played the games, and a lot of folks are telling on themselves and revealing that they haven't.

These people cant lose their jobs to AI soon enough

Just another day with the 'localizers'.
I'm not very far into the game yet, but did get couple of facepalms at the liberties they took with the script. Noteably, the Kei's introduction scene: at the very end she says something along the lines of "come hang around again and bring Kiryu-san with you" which came out in the translation as "come hang around again and bring my huzbando with you". I can't remember when was the last time I cringed so hard.
This is the prime example of 'unnececery localizing' and I still can't fathom how people can defend stuff like this.

Sounds like you're obsessed with some youtuber no one even knows. Sorry buddy but people have actual gripes with the localization, you don't need to defend milady's (billion dollar corporation) honor

The funny thing about localizers being creative is that pirate fansubs does it better.
Although game fansubs are comparatively rare and inherently not altogether timely in their releases, this observation definitely holds true in such cases as well. One or two of the Hyperdimension Neptunia games had localizations that were so utterly foul that they were quickly fansubbed out of blunt necessity, just to rescue the games from unplayability.

Your post drips with irony because although this thread has presented many direct examples of miserably inaccurate localizing, you prefer the kind of sweeping generalization that you here accuse others of. I invite you to achieve a modicum of credibility by addressing some of those aforesaid examples, preferably in a capacity more meaningful than "I disagree, pointedly without elaboration."

Worse, even when they start letting AI do most of the work, the scripts will still be "proofread" by the same people who are responsible for the dialogue reconfigurations that inspire the criticism seen in this thread. So at the end of the day, switching to AI won't fix the issue. The only thing that will is for SEGA to be made aware that the paying customers are taking issue with how the localizers they've hired are changing the dialogue to fit their whims.
