Just curious what you guys choose I like the dub since I play yakuza 7 but Kiryu is in this game and idk I like is English voice

I've been doing sub the first time through and then dub on a replay, though given IW's length it's probably gonna be a hot minute before I replay it

Never understood the gatekeepyness of this when it comes to Anime/JRPG's :/

I don't even know what Ichiban sounds like in Japanese since his character in English from 7 is so iconic to me, plus it takes place in Hawaii *anyway* so..? Are all the other Hawaiians speaking Japanese if you play with Japanese Audio? Would be weird.

dubs exist? only one option exists, the language the game was originally recorded in, aka Japanese. "Dubs" never exist for anything, they are just politically charged, the meaning always gets changed and "localization" is a way to push an agenda. Play it in the original language like it was meant to be played.

Watch all the videos of "localizers" butchering content on purpose and inserting their own political messages & agenda into anime/games when the original script looked nothing like what they did. a translator's job should be to simply translate without changing the meaning, instead they push western agenda, change JP references into EN ones and ruin the scripts.

Eh, that's the job of a localization team though, to make it make sense for the audience in question, not *just* translate.

I can think back to like, some of the old Pheonix Wright games which had a hell of a team devoted to this sort of thing, A Major key element in a case relied on a certain type of Kanji or something for instance, which when 1:1 translated made even less sense with no frame of reference for westerners. Stuff needs to be changed around so that context can exist for an Audience.

That's a hell of a claim about being political also, are there any direct examples?

Just look at what Asmongold's been commenting on lately regarding TL, and how the translator from funimation (big anime company) responds. they know they're doing terrible localizations and pushing agendas but don't care because "funny" and "talented".

I played 7 in dub. Kaiji tang is sooo good. I really wish they had gotten a better VA for kiryu. It's a real shame because most of the English VA's knocked it out of the park (aside from karaoke) in 7 and in the judgement games. But yeah, seeing as this is most likely kiryu's farewell and I played the other games in Japanese, after all these years it would feel disrespectful to send off kiryu without takaya kuroda as his VA. Yong yea aint it period. Bad sega

If the cast of a game is Japanese I use Japanese voices. It seems off to me otherwise and distracting.

Sub, but only if the female voice actors don't do the SUPER HIGH PITCHED CUTE SHRILL voice.

I don't know why, but that generally puts me on edge and ruins an experience for me. If any of the VA is like that, I'll switch to the English Dub.

Been playing the whole series in Japanese, it's the original and it fits.
