Yakuza 7 was on gamepass at release. It's a high possibility since all of the Personas (Atlus is owned by SEGA) including P3R appeared on game pass on release day.

No it was not. It was released in Nov 2020 and took almost a year later to be added to gamepass.

Sega need money at the moment. their videogame sales are lacking. only arcade stuff actually nets them some cash and failed projects by partner studios like Creative Assembly with their Total War stuff didn't help. so a least RGG and Yakuza has to earn some bucks. gamepass wouldn't work really.

gamepass games are paid by MS, they simply know that they will earn more money by locking content behind ultimate edition since GP is always just basic edition. So they figure if people have to pay they may as well pay more for ultimate, psychology and marketing 101. I have zero pity for scummy Sega, locking content behind ultimate editions and dlc again.

from what I see so far the difference between editions is just cosmetic fluff and nothing cut from the game or additional story bits.

um... sujimon & resort bundle? master vacation bundle? there's actual gameplay locked behind the bigger editions.

that's why i got ultimate, if it was just cosmetic would only need base game.

Pretty sure NG+ is the only gameplay locked behind DLC tho? Granted i wouldnt say the other things are "just cosmetic" just probably super OP things or mats to minimize grinding on those minigames.
