Archeblade
If you played Rakion back in the day, look forward to this.
To provide a better comparison, this game is very similar to Rakion in its combat style (If you played Rakion 8~ years ago then you should feel right at home)

To those who don't have experience with it a simple description would be an Arena-basedd action combat game in the sense of Counter-Strike where your team is pitted against another in various modes.

Combo'ing is key. The combat is that of fighter based games like Street Fighter and Tekken. Each character has a set of combos that you can pull off that stagger the enemy, and just like Tekken you have to wait until the opponent has an opening before taking them on otherwise you could potentially have your a** handed to you. You can't just pick up the game and expect button mashing to take you far (as any experienced fighter gamer knows) you need to learn the skillset for each character and take into account what they can do before engaging with them. The difference between this (or Rakion) compared to Tekken? It's an Arena game and you have multiple enemies to deal with.

I've personally wanted a similar game ever since Rakion went to the dogs and Archeblade fills that niche (in a more TF2 centric way). If the devs could follow some of the features Rakion had (Grips, Knock-down states could solve some of the hate towards stun-locking, PvE levels that give in-game rewards [when those awards are avaliable]) then this game is looking to be great time investment.

How did rakion suck again? I don't remember that much about it, only playing it once in my life.

Also, don't think this is a very deep game. Many characters don't have the movelist from rakion at all, it's very brief.
Rakion's a very old game, it also has the problem where it was published by Softnyx with GameGuard as it's anti-cheat. youknowwhatimean.jpg from there. It had a very good combat system with a class system that made you create a character and level it up (rather than AB with a more tf2 approach).

I'm just halfway through a suggestion post on how the devs could implement some of the features Rakion has already, most notably the knock-down state. AB in its current state is as you said quite brief but hopefully the devs will push it further. Taking some of the stuff Rakion already implements could start that off.
I don't know what you mean by softnyx, sorry. I haven't heard of what the company did to make it hated towards you. All I know is that that company owns rakion. I think some other company owned it first though.
problem it lacked the community, think the game never catched on really cool concept but wasn't a hit sadly

this has potential, but they god address lots of issues then it be a solid game later.

sucks what happen to Lost Saga that was really fun arena style game, glad another company picked up, sad i have pay for chars again o.o

I don't actually hate Rakion and Softnyx didn't do a bad job with it. What I mean by gone to the dogs is that the game was overriden with hackers which is why I pointed out Gameguard and how the majoirty of Korean developers implemented it even though it was a failed system which harmed the user the most.
Rofl, the problem with Rakion was the terrible stat/cash shop system, INSANE pay2win ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, hackers, and the awful netcode/servers. I would like to emphasize the pay2win cashshop crap, purchasing stat points giving you an insane advantage (not to mention extremely powerful summonables and armor/weapons/gear) coupled with the insane grind needed really put a dampener on a pretty decent combat system.

The actual combat system is actually deeper than this one since there were more moves and an actual throw, even though some of the strings were useless and the balance was awful (even more so with p2winners vs f2pers)

Ah, now I remember. Brawl busters. Granted, it doesn't have this gameplay as much, but brawl busters is kind of this game yet not.

What I mean to say is, go check that out as well. It's a nice game, and I played it for quite a while. Vibrant, comic style graphics and some fun gameplay.

But I think this game has more going for it.

Now as for why it is deeper: I think rakion kept itself relatively restricted to five classes, from what I remember. This game wants to use more characters, so taking that into account, it probably is necessary to have such a limited number of moves.
That is poor reasoning to why this game should have a limited number of moves; actual fighting games have sometimes double the roster and still manage to have a giant number of moves for each character. Not all of them are completely unique or useful at all times but most top players do use almost all of their character's buttons.

And even then, remember what happened? It became very popular. And I even read that getting a character like that made costs a lot of money. Especially when balancing.

And since this is a relatively unknown game, except for it being on steam's frontpage, I don't see how they can splurge those resources.

Granted, I don't know how big or small their resources are. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that these guys are pretty small potatoes, compared to the popularity of other companies.
Rakion had a option on their server config called Basic Mode which disabled all stat bonuses and only allowed the starter summon (The Nak) which everybody got at the beginning. Armour bought from the shop, in-game or real cash regardless, then became purely cosmetic. There were almost always level caps on lobbies and basic mode was enabled on lower tier (beginner level) lobbies.

Basic mode was awesome but playing against high levels there weren't a lot of basic rooms at all when I played. It still stands that Rakion still has more combat depth than this game (although not by too much) and I feel they squandered their resources to make characters instead of an actual deep combat system that people will have fun playing it for a long time so they can grind out ingame currency. As it is right now a lot of people will pick it up but the population will probably dwindle as people get bored playing (assuming the current "f2p" business model is still in)

I personally feel if this game put in double-directional attacks, grip moves and a knock-down state it would be all it needs to make the combat feel more dynamic.

Rakion is much better than this.

Dosen't mean this can't get better. AB is still in dev and the devs themselves are looking for stuff to make their game better. Why not use some of the features from a game not dissimilar to it like Rakion?

Played rakion a lot back in the days, so ofc I was interested in this game. However that game isn't really responsive gameplay wise, like more slower for everything and movements aren't relly decisive. I keep in mind that AB isn't finished yet, so it will (hopefully) get better.
I was hoping for an experience like Rakion, but this doesn't match. Rakion was very timed, a game of delays and predicting your opponents. This is a click fest.
I still liked Rakion better, so I guess I will keep looking for a replacement. :(

LOL you poor bugger. Basic mode only set you to level 1. You still had your equipment and stats. Ninjas with Acute or frozen were godlike (I had one :) ) because of the lengthened weapon and boosted attack speed. It was still fairly easy to stun grip in basic.
Basic didn't work as advertised.

I was PinkHairLady if anyone remembers me.
