Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD

This is a lazy work and an insult to THPS fans
I bought this game for nostalgia. I thought it would be great as the old THPS games, but I was wrong. This is a lazy work and a major disappointment.
Soundtrack: Only a few THPS 2 songs and a bunch of random, terrible songs that don't match the style of the game. A lot of skaters missing too. I miss Bob Burnquist and a lot others.
The game has no videos in it. All the classic THPS had awesome videos you could unlock. Also the opening video was always awesome, featuring classic songs like Ace os Spades, TNT and Police Truck.
You can't replay your run, you can't view you highlights. This is a PC game, it should have an option to view and save your replays.

So, if you're a fan of the original series, don't buy this. You will be disappointed.

Seriously? Videos and songs?
I'm more of a gameplay kind of guy.
Yeah few skaters are missing but I'm hoping for another dlc!
Gameplay: they had to screw grinding. In the old games if you press R1/L1 (PS controller) while jumping, you spin and then proceed to grinding pressing triangle. Now you can't do that. To spin in the air you have to press left/right, the same button that you use to make a specific grind command. But if you are not grinding then the R1/L1 works. It makes no sense.
The game just got worse, not better than the old ones. Almost same gameplay (no improve), same maps (note: they didn't put some of the best maps), less skaters, less good music, no videos, no replays, no options (bad PC port), etc.

And I hate this DLC ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I was just coming here to post the same thing. At first I was totally syched and couldn't find anything wrong, but the more and more I play the more I realize this port is totally half assed. No multiplayer at all!? really? half the fun of this game was playing graffiti or score attack against friends. no create a skater!? They didn't include the skate boards from the original and most of the special moves I used are missing as well. The menu's are a step backwards from the way they were perfectly implemented in the originals. I can't edit my skaters clothes. The physics engine is more of a problem then a feature. I'v never fallen as much as I do now. I do want to point out the guy above me is complaining about not being able to spin but I have no problem using the left and right triggers on my xbox controller to achieve that just like I did on the ps2 and dreamcast (yes I played THPS2 on the dreamcast big whoop wanna fight about it?) What really pisses me off is that with each THPS they improved the game play and added little things that made it easier for you to skate (like being able to hold down two buttons to have you right yourself as your falling) Its like they took every thing they learned from years of making this game and threw it all out the window.

I dont need to play the arizona downhill jam give me the amazing skate parks from 2 and 3!

Now I work for a video game publisher and I understand more than most the constraints of money and time in these kind of ports. I feel for the publisher and devs because this kinda thing isn't cheap and licensing all those songs and skaters can't be cheap, but still if you can't do it right dont do it at all. I dont mind the graphical upgrades because the levels do look amazing but going back to the physics engine I can't help but think they made a huge mistake fixing something that wasn't broke in the first place. I want a game that feels and controls exactly like it did on the old consoles and instead I got a new game that forgot the lessons of its elders.

I would have rather seen a straight port of Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2X for the original Xbox. It is what this game SHOULD have been. A direct port with better graphics, and more levels. Controls and gameplay identical to the original. The devs should have take a lesson from 2x and made a game like that.

verusisrael good comment.
About the spin, I was referring to the spin when you are grinding. Try it pressing the xbox triggers (I use an XBOX controller myself). THe spin works when you're doing ordinary moves on a half pipe.
About the rest, you're spot on.

"instead I got a new game that forgot the lessons of its elders." Exactly.

No highlights after the run? This feature is standard since THPS 1.
They chose therrible maps. The best ones are missing. For an example, where is this map in this game?

About the music, I know it is difficult to license the songs and all, but they should at least choose some music styles that match the game. For an example, this is not (or shouldn't be) a THPS song:

Now this is a THPS song:

They should stick to harcore, punk, heavy metal and rap.

I have no problem spinning while jumping while grinding using the triggers.

I do want to add that last night I unlocked the combo time attack mode. I think its called hawkman or something like that. I have to admit that mode is ALOT of fun. I think if more people unlocked that mode and played it they wouldn't have as big a problem with the game being incomplete. All of my original criticisms still stand, but this mode makes up for much of my earlier disappointment.
Taking it all a bit seriously guys ... Well I have had some time playing now, and see the first DLC. Sure we expect a LOT from THS and this didn't really add to the series in any way ... but it is good, it is fun! It plays very close to the original, bad physics :) and all and levels are accurately reproduced.

More music, more videos, more levels etc etc would always be welcome and I guess that is a good thing about the DLC system in place these days, this can always be enhanced later down the track.

Most of the gripes in this thread could be easily fixed I expect if the developers were wanting to really polish this game.

Peace!

For me, it's all about the engine. Yes, this LOOKS and mostly SOUNDS like THPS, but it just doesn't feel that way when playing. I can't seem to string together combos like I could in the old ones -- It almost seems like the developers missed the point of Manuals being used to connect combos. I can Manual into a combo, but almost never out one, and stringing them along consistently is hopeless.

This is another game that just happens to look like THPS. And that is a shame. Here's hoping this can be corrected in a future patch, as I'd love to have this lying around for a rainy day!
I played it at a friends and I would feel so gypped if I bought this myself. lets review here:
No create a skater
No create a board
No create a park
No local OR online multiplayer
Doesn't have all the songs from THPS1/2
Doesn't have all the characters from THPS1/2 (seriously, Riley Hawk and "Lyn-Z" can go **** themselves.)
New goals (that's fine but not at the expense of taking away old ones)
New engine (completely taking away the feel and gameplay of the original, good job!)
No menu for the music (why of all things can't I pause the game and select what I want to hear and what I want to skip?)
No custom music (I'm on a pc! I have a harddrive! the music is so iconic and important to the series yet I can't add and take away what I want but the developers can?)
the game is some nice good looking cheap fun on it's own but the problem is I have played the original games and I know and remember what was in them so this port is unacceptable.
Thanks for these posts, folks. I loved the Tony Hawk series in terms of their gameplay and their soundtracks, but if this is what happened to the remake, then I'll wait and keep my fingers crossed for a direct remake of the original games. Like it will ever happen, but eh, a man can dream...
have any of you guys ever paid more that ten bucks for a game?
perhaps you cheapskates need to lower your expectations of a game that is only fifteen bucks, full price with the dlc included.

if the game was in the thirty to fifty dollar price range that might legitimize your complaints but considering the pricepoint, it all just comes off as whining.
just wtf did you expect to see for fifteen bucks?
This game is a shame, the only thing that has done to me is making me install THPS3 and finish it another time. This is not even comparable

* Unreal engine sucks for a game of this kind
* This is a bad done port
* No multiplayer - 2013 srsly?
* No custom skaters
* Uber slow skating - this is not a simulator, it shoud le FUNNY and we can't even do millions combos like the others TH
* Activision ruined cod diablo and now even th ... what a shame

oh and btw don't mask you behind the low price, games like Torchlight 2 that I've payed even less are 128319283198 times better in term of PASSION that they put in the game

I've got THPS3 free from a journal years and years ago and it's another planet compared to this ♥♥♥♥

I had the chance to play this game on PS3 at a friend's house, and boy let me tell you, it was infuriating for the both of us! Activision, you don't rerelease a game calling it HD when you really mean you got a bunch of college students to completely rehash the game for you. This version is absolutely dreadful.
-Grinding and wall riding's a mess.
-The rag dolls are terrible and waste time.
-The "Big Drop" mechanic takes away ALL potential for high score combos. (This was the most enraging new feature)
-Steering is a nightmare.
-NO MULTIPLAYER
-NO CUSTOM MAP EDITOR
-Only new skaters; No Bucky Lasek. No Bob Burnquist. No Rune Glifberg.

If this game was meant to go for nostalgia, the only kind you're bringing us is in the form of, "What the hell?! Tony Hawk 1 was WAY better than this trash!" Go get a PS2, or N64 and play it on there, guys & girls, this game is a waste of money.
I think the price is not an excuse. I'm addicted to FTL which is a cheap but awesome game.
The majority of problems in this game could be solved with a little more work. Things like replay, highlights of your run, have the option to add your own music library to the game, have the option to skip the song, all of these are easy to do.
And now it is extremely difficult to connect combos doing a revert. And they call the stupid DLC "revert". This must be some kind of joke.
