Questions about being unarmed...
So I have a rogue character in the front, specializing in the unarmed skill. Just now however, I got my first shield. And suddenly I asked myself, can't I put that shield in the offhand of the character? Apparently I can, but I can't see if this stops the "unarmed" bonuses from being used - I can't find any indication on it in the statistics.

Anyone know how this works?

While I am at it I might as well also ask, can torches be worn in the offhand of the same character without problems?

Hi Amycus. From what I understand, the stat bonuses are permanent once you place skill points into them. Example: 04-Dex + 1 and 07-Health +10, will be permanent, even if you use a bow and arrow. You can test this by putting a torch (counts as a mace ingame) in both your hands, and you can see that your Dex and Health do not decrease.

Special attacks however are different. Jab (11), Kick(23), Three Point Attack(50) are attacks that require you to have one hand unarmed. If you click on that hand, you will either attack unarmed or have a chance to perform a special attack. Your energy (blue) bar should decrease when you do a special attack.

I believe characters are also ambidextrous. Meaning it doesn't matter if you have a shield in their left or right hand. They can still attack just as well with the other one. So to answer your question. Yes, you can put a torch or shield in one of your unarmed combatants hands. Just make sure the other hand is empty to perform special attacks. If you put a torch(mace), and shield combo, you will lose the ability to Jab (11 skill points).

Stat bonuses are permenant reguardless if you're using the skills directly or not. It's always worth it to spend points in skills you never use just for the stats, if you have the points for them.

The special abilities you may have unlocked will only work if you use the "weapons" required of it. You can use a shield and still use Unarmed skills, the only drawback is that you will lose 1 hand to attack with.

The same goes if you make a dual wielding character that uses different weapon types. If you are trained in both Blunt and Blade weapons, the stats will benefit you no matter what, but you will only activate any special skills you unlocked when using that specific weapon to attack. Special Abilities are automatically used "whenever available", in other words, every strike you make has a % chance of activating a special skill.

The Unarmed weapon skill requires only 1 free hand to use the skill. You can hold anything you want in your other hand.
