Loot Everything?
Basically I am wondering if there is anything later that makes it worth picking up everything or holidng on to things I no longer need? I realize that having a trash item for a pressure plate may be necessary if out of rocks or whatever, but is there a reason at all to hold on to things you know you dont need? Like a trader of some sort that shows up later? I mentioned pressure plates, and I know there is one "puzzle" early on that requires you to place a weapon in a hole in the wall to open the door, but is that the only use for extra items in the game?

Since you cannot hold on to all the things you find, you need to drop a lot of them anyway.
But later in the game there are still such kind of puzzles where for example you need a spare armor part or weapon. So you can drop most of the stuff but keep a few spare parts or maybe remember where you dropped all your spare armor pieces.

There's some swords that you need to keep also. I recall one sword that fires fireballs, and since my mage is ice, i needed that sword in order to advance in the puzzle. I think there's a sword that is required to open a treasure room also.

Open a treasure room via a specific sword - nah, not in this game.
There is a puzzle, where you need a fireball, yep. You find both a few a these swords, firebombs and can just cast a fireball.

Mark on the map where you drop stuff. There were a few times where I had to go back and hunt around previous levels for dropped items I needed later in game.

If you don't spec your mage with fire you gotta use the sword. Firebombs don't work, i have tested it.
