Impossible timing (level 3 portal puzzle)
Seems like no matter how fast you are, you will never be able to do level 3 Pillar of Light within the time alotted between the moving pillars. I counted 4 between moving columns of teleporters but when I went to actually throw the last item at the pad on the right the count was interrupted at 1. Meaning that the teleporter column sped up to my location as soon as I threw something on the pad. That seems utterly broken.

I have to say I [expletive deleted] hate twitch based games and this is probably why I stopped playing LoG last time I had it installed. Silly me for forgetting this I guess? That said if anyone knows a more reliable way of doing getting through this I am "all ears".

To be clear I mean the room with the pit in the middle, after finally getting it closed. (Took about 40mins.) As a musician I appreciate the nuances of time and timing but this is really ridiculous.

Huh?

If it really took you 40 minutes to
- throw a rock over an open pit onto a pressure plate to close that pit
- walk on the now closed pit and wait for a teleporter to pass
- when the teleporter is over the pressure plate sidestep towards the pressure plate it's over
- immediatly put (place, not throw!) a rock on the pressure plate when the teleporter moved away
- sidestep back onto the still closed pit
- repeatedly step forward until you made it passed the opening door which will only stay open long/wide enough for a very brief time, so be quick!

well .. then someone needs to work on his abilities.
Impossible...? It was simple!
Watch a video or walk through of it, if it's that hard for you.
After that spot though....have fun.....seriously....

Despite the snark (inevitable in the internet? maybe :)) the bit about placing the rock makes sense. Thanks, I'll give that a go. And yes it took about 40mins from when I started that level. (The last First person perspective game I played before this was Eye of the Beholder in the late 80s/early 90s so I guess I should have immediately gone for the spoiler instead of being fooled by the graphics.)

Initially I walked the party around the rest of the area looking for buttons to press (and falling in pits occasionally, trying to get the timing right on the two button combo that opens the secret area.) Once I realized that's what the two buttons were for I went back to the pit area and messed around until I became frustrated and read a spoiler.

Said spoiler, however, never mentioned the second panel needing to have an object laid on it. It said "throw something" and then hussle. Obviously my hussle aint what it was in the 70s-80s. :)

At first I stood right next to the gate and tried placing a rock through the bars onto the plate. The gate never made it all the way up for me to get through. I did this a few times with the same result and finally I tried stepping back to the center tile, strafed right and tossed the rock onto the plate and walked forward. The gate remained open long enough and I was able to make it. I'm not sure why it worked that way and not the other. Seems like you're essentially doing the same thing. So far, that was the only mechanic I felt frustrated by.

This is one of those games I tried out awhile back and couldn't get into. I just reinstalled and I'm really enjoying it now. Just got through level 4. Finding upgrades and secret areas and items is incredibly satisfying, more so than it is in most games.

Truely impossible challenge.... sad that this is a roadblock to me enjoying the rest of the game.

For those still stuck: There is a second plate to the left of the pit. You can't reach it but you can throw a rock at it while walking around the pit.

No guys, it's not that simple. You were born with a controller in your mouth. After five minutes I looked at a walkthrough to see how someone else does it. The teleport was swallowing my rock every time I threw it across. After some very unfortunate video games, I don't mess around anymore. Straight to Youtube.

This is interesting. I did not have this issue in the first place, but I am really stuck at this level anyway (level 3). I really do not know what to do after you find the first key in the spider lair but I also do not like spoilers, so if someone could just clarify where can I find the second key on this level that would be great :)

nvm, the issue solved. It always takes some time for your to come up wtih something weird which surprisingly might appear to be true

I'm an old guy (HOW old?) My first game was played on an Apple 2E was Zork. Later an Apple 2E GS. It took ROTK I to get me on an IBM. So I to am not to quick. Any sage advice for the
level would be awesome.

I found that reducing the overall graphics of the game settings actually sped up the game to 'normal' speed and I was able to get past this puzzle once I figured out the pattern.

BTW - as an 'old timer too', I would easily recommend youtube for videos of how to get past specific puzzles if you are completely stumped.
