console appears but underscore key won't work?

I followed the instructions for the console. Got it to open (key 115 opens F4 on my Mac), but it wont register the Underscore key? I'm using a Japanese/English keyboard. Underscore works fine on everything else. Is there a workaround?

Took me 6 hours to figure out but I will answer my own post just to help others. If you use a Japanese keyboard, the Underscore button is located on the bottom right for the hiragana character "ro". The problem is that to use the console, the keyboard must have the underscore button in another place. The US keyboard has it by shifting the "equal" button. I had to get a dedicated USA keyboard to make it work.
