I though I read somewhere that the spell has to be read/learned before it can be cast or do I have that wrong?
Another question, do I need a spell to resurrect a dead party member?
There's a big blue crystal on most levels that takes up an entire tile. Clicking on that fully heals all party members and removes all negative effects including death.
I'm loving this game. I bought it on sale on Epic for like $3.00 a while back and finally decided to give it a try. I like how it has many classic old school RPG style elements with the addition of puzzles, mixed with a modern 3D environment that looks good (for a Unity game). I can see myself playing Legend of Grimrock for a long time. And I'm definitely going to buy the second one after I beat this one.
1. Ensure mage has full energy bar - if not click the crystal. It replenishes all health and energy (and resurrects any dead party members as well as saves the game).
2. Try selecting a rune or rune combo and cast the spell. If it's an invalid combo you get the 'spell fizzles' message. If it's valid combo you will either get a message saying you've discovered the spell (if your mage is levelled up enough in that particular field of magic) or a message saying your mage hasn't achieved a high enough level to use the spell.
3. The message doesn't indicate which field of magic the spell relates to unless you have a high enough level in that discipline e.g. fireburst or shock or poison cloud. By looking at the progression in each field you can easily work out which spell is from where. You can use this knowledge to help build higher level spells in that field
