Need hint on Level 9/Floor 9, pls. Pillared Hallway?

Hi guys. Loving the game so far and haven't consulted a walkthrough yet, but I guess I've finally met my match.

I've received two ornate keys, the first of which I used to get into the room with "Outer Sanctum" written on the wall just outside. I used those portals in the order mandated by a scroll that appears in that room in front of the large statue, and solved the basic puzzle in that small section you warp to with the pits and two poison-spewing faces on either side. (I think I might have gotten the second ornate key in here actually.)

But now I don't know what to do. I can't make it down the Pillared Hallway. And I don't know where to use the second ornate key. I thought maybe the scroll about slithering left and right was the answer to getting down the Pillared Hallway, or yet another sequence in which to traverse the portals in the Outer Sanctum, but I've tried it every which way to no avail.

Obviously I'm missing something, but don't know what. I'd prefer just a hint if possible, as getting the solution outright will sap my fun for the rest of the game (more than with a hint anyway). Thanks in advance.

If it's the hallway that repeats itself after a long corridor, you were right about that note you found. Just make sure to follow the serpent's path to a T.

Figuring out the starting point was the biggest obstacle I had with that area. I made the mistake of assuming it was a tile further back than where I was expected to begin.

The upside of finishing it though is that you won't have to repeat the steps to solve it, in the event you find yourself needing to go back to the area.
