How to tell if a puzzle is has been solved previously?
do solved puzzles respawn on subsequent days as unsolved puzzles?

If you are playing a Vanilla version of the game then yes that is the default behaviour for most puzzles.

Puzzles in Enclaves will stay solved, as will trials pillars of insight and other static puzzles that always appear in the same place whenever you are in game (such as some star level logic grids.

Everything else resets every 24 hours as per the timers in game where it shows how many of each puzzle should be available ( in vanilla these totals are unreliable. If you would prefer that solved puzzles re spawn as solved on subsequent days then I recommend this mod

because keeping solved puzzles solves is one of its main features, the other being that all puzzles including bugged puzzles that would never spawn now will so finishing all the puzzles collections is a realistic goal.

The mod provides quality of life fixes so that the game is what it should have been and you REALLY should get it.

Example of a Bugged Puzzle
One of the Matchboxes I tried to find in an area was confusing me, for the likes of me I couldn't find it for hours on end, came back to it only to spend more hours on another cycle it appeared, then I asked the community for help, someone glitched out of the map only to find it within the terrain itself, making it unsolvable & therefore you wouldn't be able to 100% Matchboxes because of this one Matchbox, or more of course

Many puzzles have been bugged & never fixed that I & the community did report, thankfully to the community, they're supporting it by creating the mod, while I don't want to use it just yet, I'm grateful for the effort they put into it that seems amazing

May I ask what's stopping you from using the mod? Perhaps I could help if you have some qualms about it. The mod is designed to be a direct upgrade / community patch fully compatible with your vanilla progress, and the matchbox you've described is one of many things we've already fixed there.

It's Just a Me Thing, Personal Issue
I'm a vanilla player, I usually don't use mods, on top of avoiding intrusive 3rd party files, I rarely use mods in any game, if I do, it comes directly through the Steam Workshop, I generally try to avoid any off Steam mods if I can

I have actually tried mods before, it didn't turn out well, I didn't know what I was doing most of the time & I had a malicious infection which I had to go through a lengthy process to remove, so ever since then, I've been very cautious & to stick mainly to official & trusted mods

Since I know very little on this mod in question as well as it's 3rd party based, I'm avoiding it

As long as the game works as it is, I'm fine with the way it is, even if my file gets wiped, as long as I can play I'm good, besides

Additionally, I like redoing the puzzles, so them staying solved isn't really something I want either, then if they stay solved, if I reopen them, I can see the solution before I can reset the puzzle, then I'm pretty much spoiled from redoing it again

This is fair, and I'm glad you're still able to enjoy playing the game.

If you ever get to the point where you can't solve the last remaining puzzles (some won't spawn in vanilla) and still want to 100% the game, you can always install the mod then.

Hopefully by that time it will have been around long enough and in use by enough people that it's trustworthy, and we're in the process of putting everything within the mod and descriptions of exactly how the game was altered up on public repositories for everyone to see. The dll the mod uses (which poses the most potential danger in theory) is already on a public github repo too.

Edit: All the mod stuff is up on github now!
