"But I think that the devs are aware of this and will bring the co-op-mechanics back."
The sweet little lies we tell ourselves to rather keep being blind than seeing for what it is.
MMO stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online" - and that's what it is. It's a game that you play in a shared world that has absolutely 0 content made for MMO play. If you remember, games with the "MMO" tag have dungeons, group content, group goals and such.
In this game the "always online" function does only exist to sell cosmetics and prevent piracy.
The "Online Coop" tag is just straight up false, even Dark Souls has more Coop than this game and is marketed as "Singleplayer" game only and not online coop or multiplayer.
You are very naive. What happens when an MMO fails or decides to shut down servers? They don't make an offline mode I can guarantee you that. This is precisely why many people want an offline mode. They want to be assured that if this company feels the need to shut down servers that they can continue to play.
This game is very chill and relaxing. It's not an MMO I would feel the need to rush through if it had an offline mode. The fact that I would feel the need to rush to complete this or fear losing something I purchased is a turn off.
The community manager was on the Alienware stream yesterday while they played the game. I specifically asked if there would be more puzzles coming that people could group up to solve together. Their answer was that there were no plans for that at this point. I'm sorry, but you just come off as a typical gaming fanboy that refuses to use critical thinking skills.
What it is not is a co-op MMO. There is no co-op what so ever. So that store tag is misleading.
The only 3 letters why it is online only are not MMO but DRM.
I'm pretty sure that showing off their character's outfit in a major city which they bought from a game shop or from some achievement is their idea of an MMO and that's it.
I don't get why people don't see that I also have doubts on this game:
"I can understand why at the moment it seems like there is no actual point to the always-online architecture of the game if there is no real co-op mechanics, aside from seeing each other. But I think that the devs are aware of this and will bring the co-op-mechanics back."
But I chose the option to be optimistic, rather than being pessimistic, destructive and toxic.
Thanks for all the clown-awards. I thought people would show more respect to each other. But I guess thats just the web, where being constructive only brings you hate, trolls and respectlessness.
I haven't seen anything that suggests you have doubts.
You are being positive towards the devs, but that isn't all "being positive" entails. If you were a truly positive person you would understand why some aren't happy about this and be okay with it. What you are doing is being a fan boy and trying to suppress other's from voicing their concerns. What you don't understand is us voicing our concerns is the only way this company may make changes. Just saying "it's all good" hasn't helped any MMO in the long run.
As I posted elsewhere, myself and others asked a community manager during the Alienware stream if there was any intention of bringing co-op back and the answer was pretty much "no". Continuing to be "positive" about this when you have the answer sounds like you are in denial.
As an MMO fan and someone who loved Wildstar, I understand not wanting an online game you enjoy to die. That said, it's the risk you take when you buy an MMO. Some of us have been around long enough to see the warning signs.
They can dislike a major part of the game while still enjoying the rest of it.
Now if you @Hotcross have official evidence that the co-op mechanics won't come back, then I can totally agree with you. This has nothing to do with fandom. I was just thinking since there was no official written statement, one could also think positive/optimistic. If the co-op mechanics won't come back, then yes, then the marketing is all misleading and the game potentially a scam.
