Really bad graphics?
Somehow i expected this game to be looking beautiful.
I just entered the tutorial and the first thing i see when looking around is a waterfall that looks like it came straight out of the original skyrim? And thats with all epic settings.
Pretty disappointed to be honest.

There have been lots of threads on this already. Yes, for a lot of us the graphics are not performing properly. Most notably, the graphics settings don't seem to make a difference. The game is still playable and the core puzzles are mostly unaffected. Hopefully they make improvements.

Alright i downloaded the nvidia driver that released yesterday and the waterfalls dont look THAT bad anymore.
Still, the games AA method makes it look like i forgot to put my glasses on. Everything is blurry.

There is a serious problem regarding textures not loading at all. Fortunately the game does run smoothly (even though it looks like it's from 20 years ago) and I have been solving puzzles like a lunatic for two days.

That and the default graphical settings were really not to my liking. Now after the first bad impression and fiddling around with the options the game is quite honestly blowing me away. What an awesome experience. Love it!

In the demo you could tell it was struggling with how long it was taking to load even with the ring puzzles not fully formed and the viewfinders having that clayey texture to it.

1. Go to %localAppData%\IslandsofInsight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\
2. Open Scalability.ini
3. Paste this
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=0.99 r.ViewDistanceScale=0.5 [TextureQuality@1] r.Streaming.MipBias=16 r.Streaming.MinMipForSplitRequest=1 r.Streaming.MaxNumTexturesToStreamPerFrame=300 r.Streaming.NumStaticComponentsProcessedPerFrame=300 r.Streaming.FramesForFullUpdate=30 r.Streaming.MaxTempMemoryAllowed=1536 r.Streaming.HLODStrategy=2 r.Streaming.HiddenPrimitiveScale=0 r.Streaming.Boost=1 r.MaxAnisotropy=4 r.VT.MaxAnisotropy=4 r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=0 r.Streaming.PoolSize=4096 r.Streaming.MaxEffectiveScreenSize=0 r.Streaming.DefragDynamicBounds=1
4. Change r.Streaming.PoolSize to amount of VRAM your graphics card has in MB
5. Set the file as 'read only'.

Your textures should now be fixed. However, expect minor image stuttering as your graphics card now has to work overtime to juggle textures in and out of memory.

The reason this bug happens is because the game needs at least 6-8 gb or VRAM to run. I have 2 identital gpu's but one is 4gb and the other is 8gb. The first one struggled with the bug, while the latter was fine

Thanks, it works! I have a 4gb video card and with this config textures look good and sharp. There is indeed a minor stutter, but I can live with it since game doesn't require any fast reactions.

To be honest, they shouldn't have specified 4gb vram as a minimum required setting. It looks really bad by default and feels like it is a technical issue or a 'bug' (although technically it's not a bug, there is just too many large textures i.e. poor optimization).

I have 4GiB of VRAM, but that should only put me at about half the texture resolution of what would be supported on the maximum spec's 16GiB. What I'm actually seeing is blurrier than Super Mario 64.
@TomatoMato's recommendation sadly didn't fix the issue on my machine.

#6 TomatoMato's Scalability hack is definitely a game changer. Before this hack I would crash 4 out of every 5 starts. I created this file, set just the r.Streaming.PoolSize to my vram. Didn't even make it readonly and it seems to stick. Game loads each and every time now, as long as the server is up.

Haven't tested but I bet you could get away with just setting
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1
to fix this situation also.
