What do you think of the Shockwave? [Official BlastRunners thread]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E5_5t9VWDE&feature=youtu.be

It's useful for pushing people into spikes, messing with walljumps, knocking down obstacles and all that fun stuff.

You can counter it with boosting.

What do you think?

This has to stay in, it's so great. The countering with boost, the way it can be a total misfire and end up propelling an opponent forward, the potential for utterly devestating an opponent's momentum... it's all a perfect compliment to the controlled chaos of this game at it's best.

Part of me wishes it would block hooks too, but then I guess it might end up being a little too overpowered? Or maybe I just did it wrong when I tried.

This is really clever as now people will be a lot more in tune with their boost usage. I really like it.

I like it, but maybe it's a bit too powerful? I just played a game and EVERYONE ALWAYS died at the spikes. I mean it's a nice idea, but maybe it should be executed in another way? Maybe reduce the radius?

I have yet to experience the wave when playing with the red borders close to me. Will it just push me out of the visible area whenever anyone uses it in a 1 on 1 situation?

I like it, but I feel it's ability to knock back whoever is behind you kinda makes the boxes less awesome. I'd prefer if it acted as purely an interrupt-type skill rather than a potential knockback one. Making people stumble mid-swing, leap, or sprint would be enough for me. Perhaps taking away someone's potential second jump if they're in the radius while in the air? That would make it subtle, but deadly when used right. I'd like that; most of the skills aside from the boxes are so BLATANT it would make for a nice change.

Right now the chances of having it are artificially higher, so maybe that's the reason

I really like it, it offers a lot of possibilities to attack and to defend. It changes the way to consider using a boost. A really clever tool. I have a couple of questions though.

Is the effect different if the victim is closer to the center ? (ie. more knockback the closer to the opponent)

Do you plan to add a sound effect for it ?

Keep up the good work !

The item is useful for messing people up and pushing them off, but it gets more overpowered as the screen shrinks. Maybe have a certain range/radius for it that's 2/3 the height of the screen?

To be fair, everything is overpowered when the screen shrinks. Bomb is instant death if you can get in front.

Didn't quite think of it that way.

It's great but make it same like boxes/bomb so guy who is last can't get it since I don't see how it would benefit him.

I'm pretty sure you can get every item in every position, I have seen first place getting a hook last place getting boxes etc. The only thing I've never seen is a first place drill but that perfectly makes sense in my opinion (EDIT: Never mind, happened the game right after I posted this :D).

Also remember that it's not a lineal game since two players can take different routes, then get an item and swapping the lead just by the route (I hope you understand what I mean, couldn't find an easier way to phrase it).

If u use this bad, this speds your enemy, if u use this good, this can : throw your enemy on spikes, clear whole way of boxes, or even throw out rocket. Dont say there is no use

It seems you can get every item on every position but it's highly more likely to get hook/drill/rocket when you are last and boxes/bomb when you are first.

There are also exceptions but if two players swap position because of different routes then one who was last can get that shockwave anyway from powerups. Atleast this is what I got from your 2nd point. Also sometimes you have to "follow the leader" because of red borders so going your own routes is not option.

I like it, expecially how it can be used to boost players forward into spikes or to catch up to that 2/3 wins guy. And wish there were items that affect boost usage.

Like, an item that turns boost into anti-boost (decelleration) for 2-3 seconds or lock usage of it would be uncool, because it will mess with some sweet paths on maps.
An item that would remember how long people use boost in those 2-3 seconds and decellerate after, for the same or double the boost time, would be cool because it doesn't limit opportunities and even allows to do some interesting things with it. (for example, decelleration before falls on top-left and right parts of ship stage) Or, altering the physics like increasing mass for the same period.
