I'd say you really need a sense of exploration and experimentation to enjoy the game to the fullest. Also don't forget to have lots of saves. It's tricky especially since you could choose one route and go off on quite a tangent before you realize you'd rather have not taken that turn exactly yet...but it's trial and error, and lots of game time. Drink lots of water and keep at it.
Starscape is a really great game. Don't get me wrong, it has aged a bit. Due to the cartoony graphics in cutscenes, that aspect has held up nicely, and the actual gameplay is solid
It merely could use an update, better resolution, and what have you.
Even so, it's definitely worth a look. It deserved far more success than it achieved, despite good reviews. It was rather hard for indie games back then.
