I am finding the same issue and disabling Steam Controller Support does not help. Seems to be something about how the game is handling the camera on controller. If I had to describe it, its as if there was an invisible mouse being controlled by the right thumb stick. So when you change direction the "invisible mouse" takes a bit to cross the center to change the direction of the camera as desired.
Character movement with left analog is fine.
I've gotten used to using key+mouse but would be nice if they fixed the controller issue, I'm using a wired Xbox 360 controller and confirmed it doesnt happen in other games.
This is what I've found... it only happens when you switch directions. If you nudge to the left, nudge left, nudge left, etc it'll work fine, but then if you nudge right it'll go left for a bit before going right. Same with the inverse, so if you keep nudging right it'll be fine but the first time you go left after been going right it'll mess up again.
I agree that this makes is unplayable at the moment. I hope it gets fixed soon.
Steam Deck works fine.
