PC hard crash and reboots playing Squirrel With a Gun
This is new to me, my PC has never had any sort of crash like this before. Rig is an R5 5600, 32gb 3600mhz ram, RX6800. Cooling and power supply are above sufficient for gaming.

Basically, just got Squirrel With a Gun, and it's been running fantastic and is super fun. But once I got out into the open neighborhood area, my PC blackscreens and fully reboots after 20-30 mins of playing. This is now the only game or scenario this has ever happened, and I'm very at a loss.

Event viewer has errors referring to:

"The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

"The compound file GameInput Service was produced with a newer version of storage."

"Unable to start a DCOM Server: Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_1000.XXXXX.XXXX.0_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Security.Authentication.Web.Core.BackgroundGetTokenTask.ClassId.WebAccountProvider as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error: "2147942402" Happened while starting this command: "C:\Windows\system32\BackgroundTaskHost.exe" -ServerName:BackgroundTaskHost.WebAccountProvider"

Anyone else having an issue like this, or know anything to prevent this crashing. Seems like a problem with GameInput service but I have no idea what that is lol, looking into it. Could this just be a thing with this game specifically? I'm loving it so far but this has really got me not even wanting to mess with it right now. Could it be a problem with AMD? I just recently swapped out my 30060ti for the RX6800, with using DDU of course. Curious of any thoughts about this and any advice would be awesome.

Try reinstalling chip set drivers and making sure windows is working correctly by ensuring DISM is in tact (google it), and then running the system file checker - sfc /scannow in a terminal with admin privileges.

So I had this same issue. I was loosing my mind as I could put my GPU under full synthetic load and other games for hours and I couldn't get it to replicate the behavior. I eventually found if I flipped some of the settings like lumen off and on rapidly I could get it to trip the black screen. I spent a day or so going through solutions until I got a new card as a test. Now it doesn't do it. I put the old one back in then it did it again. The weirdest thing I've encountered

SFC is my go to suggestion for a hard crash, more often than not windows components being corrupted is the culprit.

from there i would read up on redownloading the redistributables steam grabs for games and verify those, anything past that is starting to sound like either driver errors for important hardware like your mobo or an outright hardware fault. though that last one you would be seeing issues elsewhere occasionally too. without direct eyes on it, it can be hard to make that determination.

Hardware issues, such as failed GPU core or memory chips, are best diagnosed with specific software designed to isolate errors, and usually require some in depth knowledge to translate from the given data.

An inquisitive mind can do it, but it'll likely take some time, and google-fu to get to the bottom of the problem.

First thing I'd be looking for is high temps at the memory junction - usually the most taxed part of the GPU. Bad GPU RAM chips can be registered as part of the memory pool, but then malfunction when in use. Brittle, lead-free solder is often to blame, from what I've seen.

yeah newer GPUs are often reported as having this issue on both nvidia and AMD. its why i'm still using my 2080ti from EVGA
