Shaman is cool, ritual is not
The whole mechanic of walking around the ritual circle is kinda cumbersome and not exactly viable after a certain point when there are too many enemies around. It's one of those mechanics that loses it's usefulness the further into the run you get, which feels really bad.

Shaman himself is cool though. I love the flame whip, been playing with it and a split fire/earth build that wrecks pretty hard, which just further makes the ritual feel not worth using.

I agree, and to add one more annoyance: if the snake gets caught in the Grim Reaper's purple circle of doom, it drops dead. Maybe that's intentional, I don't know, but having to lead the unkillable ghost away before I finish the ritual doesn't make it any more fun to use.

imagine doing ritual during titan fight
No offence to the devs, but how was this not blatantly obvious? Like its the first thing most players thought of when seeing the trailer..

yeah, they're pros when it comes to ignore community feedback, i mean it's not like a truckload of ppl didnt already tell them that such mechanics are a damn bad idea; and in add. to the ritual they also added the chest and crystal which spawn most of time in extremely cramped space, while you try to evade the red floor, having to stay in the area for an eternity.

enemies are arround? i usually offscreen most enemies
I'm in general not fond of all these mechanics that almost every character has where you have to go to a specific place, and hang there. I would like all of that to be reworked into something else. Even those that require picking up items like fuel or body part for engineer/necro become very tedious once entire screen is basically a game of floor is lava.

It does make Shaman irritating to play past loop 8 without taking healing (mostly because it spawns alongside walls all the time), but his Ascension does have the advantage of not requiring you to kill anything to get it.

They very clearly chose to go with thematic, more than ease of use. Although you can do the ritual in stages.

And ya, the snake dies if you're masochistic enough to use the floaty reaper ghost thing, but the snake is also irrelevant to the value of the Ascension. The stat boost is the only thing that matters.

one reason i like barbarian so much is his ability just pops without any annoying gimmicks

really wish they'd stop this nonsense
I like it until it gets so hectic it cannot be seen; otherwise i like following the pretty lights

I think the gimmicks are cool honestly. I would rather they play into the class fantasy and make each character have a unique method of getting buffs than something as (to be blunt) simple and lame as "kill things to get stronger"

The trick is to simply make the buff worth the headache. A character who has to go out of there way to activate their effect should receive more from it then someone who doesn't.

I personally like it. Just takes 3-4 dashes to quickly get them going but it does suck when you can't get mobs/AoEs off from the area long enough.
The ritual gives a lot of power. It shouldn't be too easy. I have died trying to get it completed but 2 things spring to mind - movement speed is something you are probably aiming for anyway and that really helps with this. Also that you do not need to do the ritual in one circuit if you are getting into trouble, you can dance away and come back to it.
I could just be odd here but I think its the best version of this type of mechanic they have so far. So much better than stand here and channel this. And when you are cracked up with movement speed it takes a couple of seconds to trigger. Lead enemies away for a second and then run back. The extra damage is worth it.
There's no requirement to get all the points on the ritual in one attempt.
Get a few then move away, kiting the enemy with you. Dash in get a few more etc.
I don't see anything wrong with it.
If you compare it to other characters, lets say the Paladin, where you have to chase the Giving Angel all over the place, taking fire as you try to gain the max favour (or ignore it and pick up the favour fragments). The Ritual comes off better IMO.
