Single Skill builds?
I guess there are two flavours of this. The "every skill slot is the same skill" via the Singular Focus rune, and the "only one slot, period" via combining both the Focused Mind and Devastating Blow runes. Right now I'm curious about the latter (only one slot) version.

I know it's likely very sub-optimal, but sometimes I enjoy doing single skill runs (it can be quite effective in other reverse bullet hell survival games)... and was wondering if anyone has tried any in this game, how it worked, and what (if any) are your favourites?

for the every slot is the same skill i find that Chromatic bolt can be quite fun, as you will often get offered the level up bonuses that make it so when you cast one type, it affects all others, and chromatic has most skill types on it, which leads to a real fun late game build. Be warned though chromatic bolt is kinda ass early game, so use a stronger skill to support it till you can pop off

From my testing, the 1 skill slot variant is massively superior to the Singular Focus variant, to the extent that I don't think Singular Focus has a niche anymore in picking only 1 ability (it's fine for mixed skill builds that use more than 1 of something).

That said, the absolutely most amusing and annoyingly cracked one cracked one I've done is Cobra Totem. With Divine Legacy you will always get the +2 totems option every 25 levels, and with the small pool, you'll always get other instances of extra totems because your option pool is super limited. So you end up with 30-50 totems that each do substantial damage, which is comparable to how many you'd have using Singular Focus, except that they hit harder. And Cobra Totem feeds itself its own Weakness debuff. It's actually kinda annoying because it can do Loop 9-10 OL (depending on your ability to avoid damage), which means it outscales many much more thought-out builds.

(Also, for the guy above's post, Singular Focus Chromatic Bolt is possibly the worst build you can make in the game with something that actually does damage. Chromatic Bolt is shockingly weak, and chaining off itself doesn't help enough.)

I mean i said in my post that Chromatic bolt was ass, and that you would need other skills till it became decent enough, like you already said, singular focus is already pretty whatever, so its not like they were asking for something meta to run lol, just something neat, which i find chromatic bolt to be, even if its ass.

How do you do a single slot run? I have to choose another skill when i level up. Or you don't chose anything and don't get any passive?

By using both the Focused Mind and Devastating Blow runes at the same time. Focused Mind removes 2 slots, and Devastating Blow removes 3 slots, leaving you with one left.
