It's not particularly hard on any character you have grinded with (which by now you have if you played the game every update or so).
I liked the game at first but every update feels super random and it really feels like the team has no real idea what they want to do with the game. This mode in particular feels super bizarre to me. I actually prefer to play this over the regular game mode but it's for dumb roundabout reasons A) that you don't have to manuall setup curses B) that you farm all materials at once without thinking much and C) it's super fast and rewarding in a sense.
But I'm not having fun if I'm being honest at the same time.
So the new mode kinda killed all 5 previous maps for me and also made the game less fun at the same time, yay?
It's still easy to beat on the hardest difficulty, meaning your build is literally irrelevant. The fact that your actives and passives are stripped between each "Cycle" really REALLY means your build is irrelevant.
This mode is definitely an... Interesting direction they've taken the game, but in my personal opinion this is completely the WRONG direction. It's unfun, mindless, requires 0 strategy or thought, and has no worthwhile rewards.
But even if they made it challenging enough to actually care about your build, why? Then you're spending more time in the upgrades menu for still no worthwhile rewards, only for your choices to not matter again in the next 30 seconds.
Every update so far has been an absolute hit for me, but this ain't it chief. This mode is a complete flop and I don't think i'll be doing this mode again to unlock the little stained glass "look I did it" pictures next to the mode, simply because there is no rhyme or reason to any builds on any characters. Set up decent runes, random actives, spam random passives, done. On every character.
Please look to rework this mode, I love this game to bits and have 100% of achievements, and I immediately jump back on every time there's an update. I get so happy to see new content, so please reconsider this mode. It has potential, but not like this.
I guess I expected more in way so that's on me but at the same time the mode doesn't offer anything new outside the boss which I really like.
The location was nice enough but that disappears quickly, same with the boss arena room for the second phase, nice but nothing that wont fade quite quickly.
The biggest fault of the new mode is that it doesn't add anything new after a run, there's no unlocks, no currency to use, no materials, nothing. Now, all this or some of it could be added in a future update so I'm not condemning the mode just yet but I don't see a reason to do the mode except maybe once per character just so that all characters have done it once.
I'm surprised there wasn't more achievements linked to the mode but that's fine, I expect more will come for that soon enough.
Skills you picked on previous waves will not show up again once you selected them. This means to min max the clear time you will want to balance stronger and weaker skills so that by the time you get to the 4th wave you have most of what you want left in pool and little of what you don't want. Those skills will get used for both the 4th wave and the final boss so you will get a bigger value out of having your strongest set used there.
Only done a few runs so far and am not sure whether I would want to run Omnipotent on everyone or not since it makes the pool larger it's harder to control what you get. Could be worth and would need to fool around a bit to find out. Which is what I like about the game mode it is a different way to think about things than existing content and more things to experiment with.
Just finished a quick run on the third difficulty where I had Venomous Volley 3/4 rounds, so I don't think this is correct unless skill inclination runes overwrite what they intended about skills being locked after selecting them for the first time.
That's interesting I am on +6 of the highest difficulty and have yet to see any repeats, but I also haven't run skill inclination runes in any of my builds.
Edit: Just tried a run with inclination runes and just saw dupes of that type so either I've been extremely unlucky or this is a bug.
