Unlocking certain class skills can make more efficient rune combos.
Especially using the 5 of any skills rune option.
There is some marginal benefit from multiple class skill tree state increases that apply to all characters.
I also have found some minor benefit in having to deal with the pros and cons of certain charters types which also inform you which runes and skill combos are more powerful.
Any recommendations on which character to play next?
A few to check out:
Sentinel abilities are pretty fun but the class mechanic blows.
Houndmaster has some fun starting abilities and the class mechanic is easy.
Necromancer is fun and the class mechanic is OP.
So far I've liked them all, but Death Knight is probably my favorite. I need to get the rune that gives him access to scent of blood and the arcane multishot thing for a bleed build on his blood sword. So far his weapons have all been very fun.
Necromancer was alright but I think I need more runes to get his minion builds set up quickly. A poison build with him seems fun too but I have yet to encounter a scaling poison that can compete with lightning/bleed.
Currently working on spellblade.
So I'd say play different characters early and often.
Scent of blood is really OP. You should try it with the holy aoe heal ability (I forget the name) or the holy ability that causes enemy attacks to miss (again, I forget the name) - it stacks to something like 60-70% (diminishing returns I believe).
There are also some hidden ability unlocked via events (check guides). One, Chaos Bunnies, is particularly OP and really fun when combined with aoe size + multicast.
