Everyone will have their favourite builds.
Focusing on summons works for many.
Focusing on beams for high single target dps works as well.
Never skimp on mobility (extra dash card when it shows up? heck yes! Though with deathknight it's easy to get too much speed making it harder to navigate without running into everything and getting stuck)
Now it is true that it can end up being a game of "make your skills AoE larger than the screen and spend the whole time dodging/running away doing circles around the bosses so the edge of your huge AoE is hitting them while they're just off screen until they die". It's not pretty, but it can work (until you get stuck on a tree and the attack indicators catch up and demolish your face).
Sadly, not every build is viable for high curse clears... however there are several that are. Which ones work best is really dependant on your playstyle.
I personally like beam builds, though I have also has success at max curse with various variations on bladestorm AoE with doom stacking (from passive cards, not active skills that apply it), various deathknight AoE builds (no dash but high speed), as well as with summons (note: don't go crazy on cooldown/cast frequency, as after a certain point it renders summons useless as they get re-summoned before they can do damage).
I guarantee you it's possible without cheating, but it will take experimentation and practice (and patience).
I started by myself and never followed any build, but i'm clearing curse 7. Curse 6 is not impossible, you just need to focus on the right spells. Try shadow orb + arcane orb + blizzard, poison/slow stacking and get the slow to fragility/poison to doom chance. No health/block/crit chance or crit damage (you have dazed at some point from doom to daze chance if you are lucky, but it's not needed for dots).
Get move speed, damage whenever you can (it's more importan than you think), cast frequency/multicast and you're fine. Arcane weaver is probably the best to try, with arcane shield you can absorb a lot of damage.
But you can't get Shadow Orb on Arcane Weaver?
The reality of vomit spam is that the vast majority of it actually doesn't do very much damage. There's only a couple of attacks (*cough*shades*cough) that actually do high damage, so it's actually problems with either a) balancing sustain and b) trying to do sufficient damage while not overly being risky to risk the actual one-shot areas.
This is a big reason why Summons and Beams are popular; Summons give good damage availability at low risk and Beams have high enough single target DPS at good range that you get good target selection, high scaling damage, and good safety. But there are a lot of builds that work; the general rule is understanding how to maximize the "main" debuffs of your build and capitalize on it properly (for example, my current go-to-build is Paladin Weapon 1 because BoL + Holy Fire is a strong enough core for crit that you can stack multi-cast and attack speed very quickly, which works well with Brittle set-up, and gives easy access to Exorcism as the best defensive skill in the game).
Typically, the best builds are either extremely safe (again, Summons) or have at least one good defensive active to balance out the sustain issue. Exorcism and Arcane Shield are the best, but you can get away with lot of other skills. For example, the reason why the aforementioned Body Slam build works, even without a defensive skill, is because Body Slam lets you get lots of HP, and Body Slam has such high innate AoE that you get a lot of safety while still attacking.
One last thing: Tags are deceptive. The best builds don't necessarily just cram everything of the same tag together, although it's certainly a strong consideration. You also have to pay attention to the individual skill synergies; for example, if your class lacks a good defensive, it may be worth considering stuff like Chaos Golem even in non-summon focused builds just for something to keep heat off you.
Sorry my mistake i did a run with legionnaire and weaver a few hours ago and got confused, anyway arcane orb is enough, you can also pick icy vortex + blizzard combo and focus on aoe + multicast
The way the game is designed currently for higher curse levels i will admit i hate it. Its WAAAY to much spam and garbage on the floor to enjoy any class and it becomes a simple DPS race to kill stuff while dashing non stop like your playing frogger on crack.
That being said..it is possible to beat..the issue is more your kinda maligned to playing mostly all ranged characters and melee is pretty much impossible after a certain curse level due to much spam to even get your damage in ( without cheesy niche builds..which isn't how a game should be designed really.. ).
I'd use the more Ranged type classes for higher levels to be more successful. One i used i liked; which is kinda easy? Is use the Elementalist with the ice weapon you can make and go a full Ice build. The key to it is getting Hypothermia when it shows up and you'll stack Fragility super quick..making things alot simpler to kill and their hp should drop fast. Ideally pick the ice skills that cover large areas since you just want things slowed constantly to stack the fragility the quickest; then you can just run around like a idiot the whole match and let your skills do the work. Just remember to lower to opacity to be able to see the floor to dodge all the spam while your spells kill stuff ( I run a higher end rig so i usually leave the game maxed out; but its just unfesible to see stuff once you get spam on the screen so you really have to lower it at higher curse levels so you can see the Lava on the floor your dodging all game lol )
Other than that im sure the other ranged based classes can work fine; heck even the re-worked lighting based 300 roman solider lmao..is actually a blast to play a full lighting build with him..he just falls off hard later i found as he does tons of AOE..but not enough burst damage and your more less tickling things to death and you wont keep up with killing the bosses then at max curse.
If you wanna try melee classes..GL..lol..not gonna say their unusable but unless they change the spam at higher levels..its unpractical playing a class that requires you to essentially eat tons of damage to just play the game ( as you can't get close to anything long enough even with ducking in and out ).
