I agree - i didn't realise having just done some research i definitely spoke to soon!
Vampire Survivors did NOT originate the genre though you can't say contrary to what i said then dismiss games that were out LONG before these ones.
There were games like this before Vampire Survivors, but its undeniable Vampire Survivors is the reason there are suddenly an influx of these kinds of games happening. Its surprise popularity made the genre appealing on a level it never has been before and introduced it to a much broader audience.
Don't waffle this stuff if you never played enfos then you have no clue what you are talking about. The numbers for VS do not compare to enfos respectfully.
BUT! the notion of an actual product rather than a mod - i will give you that :)
There are games which are different enough from vs but still fit the bill. Like 20 minutes until dawn.
Some call these games reverse bullet hell, some survivor games. The first game I can think of which was kinda like that was probably asteroids.
Yeah, popularise is more accurate. The Vampire Survivors dev has even said that the game is directly inspired by a mobile game called Magic Survival which definitely deserves more recognition. It's worth checking out even now, as it might still be the only mobile game in this genre that isn't full of micro-transactions.
