Is this like herzog zwei?
I watched the video and it reminded me a lot of an old genesis game, is it anything like that?

Inspired by it in concept, but people alternate between thinking "omg you're gonna get sued" to "wtf this is nothing like HZ, everything is different".

So just check it out and see--that's why it's free. :)

Can't see why you'd get sued but I will give it a try when my friends are around, I just wanted to know if it played like that because I loved the game as a kid. Granted it was a massive pain to control a large group of units but it was still amazing at the time.

I made AirMech to be what my memory of Herzog Zwei was, updated with modern gaming advances. But when I went back and played HZ, I was shocked at how basic and frustrating it was to play. AirMech will ruin you for HZ I must warn you. :)

Genesis.. I've heard of HZ before. Never played it, but would like to see a video on what makes it and AM similar.

I don't think there is any recorded history of HZ in video form on the internet. It's just too old.

The bare bones of herzog zwei and airmech are the same. You'll notice that both are hybird strategy games where unit management is handled in a special way.

You still have to fly a physical carrier over a fort or outpost and airlift your units out of it when you want to build new ones, and basically have to be above units to issue the other orders. Outposts are still captured with infantry, and you are limited in your own actions by an energy bar that only outposts or landing on the ground can refill.

Of course the old thing was quite a bit different. Both you and the enemy always had the same units in your loadout , landing to fight with your own unit is now effective on larger units than before, especailly in specific situations.

Oh, and there were no hotkey keybinds back on console, the lack of a respawn timer allowed you to exploit getting killed in ceirtain situations, lack of neutral units to delay taking neutral outposts made the early game into an unmanagble expansion race against humans and made cheese semi mandatory against ai, no minimap, etc.

HZ was the first strategy game i ever played as a fun loving litlle child of 8 . i still hook the genesis up to play favorites like shadowrun, vectorman, golden axe, and herzog. you sir took an awesome concept and brought my young adulthood the same super intense mind fun herzog gave me as a child and that right there. is more than any game has ever done.
