My only issue with gacha game is the catch up for people who have not played in a while with games like genshin impact. There needs to have catch up mechanics for folks to get ahead.
Thing is
1. Revenue from cosmetics and passes fluctuate. Not everything will be bought at same rate. Relying on those shaky roller coaster income model alone will endanger future funding for a game with zero entry bar. And not every new MMO can survive like the good ol' critically acclaimed MMO with free trial up to level 60 and with the award winning expansion Heavenswald included sub system.
2. when you lock characters as one time purchase DLC......in a free to play MMO game that has PvP content; that is arguably even worse move than just going F2P MMO with gacha. Things might will go truly P2W.
3. If you are spending in any online games with expectation that 'i hope this worth it' or 'i hope I get my money worth back', that is a wrong mindset. Online game by nature won't keep anything when the server shut down. All money spent on online game should be treated as "I give to the devs as a thanks for their hard work and I fully aware these money will be lost forever to me".
4. In-case I need to repeat myself........
I personally like gacha games. No one is forcing you to pay in gacha games. Ofc if you wanna collect everything and try to be on the top of leaderboards you will need to spend money. But no one is forcing you to play competitively.
For everyone else its an amazing way to play a game for free and let's face it nowadays many AAA titles that cost 60 or even 80 bucks now feel like a rip off. Because fun there isn't guaranteed either and you have to pay full prize up front and might just drop the game after a day because it sucks.
Unfortunately some gamers have more money than common sense, they keep spending $ of these games and then complain when they turn P2W or have pull rates so low you end up spending 1000s on them.
Good luck with that, FOMO is very real :P
naahh gacha games are the best ones
60$ is more than 0$. How is playing for free a rip of?
And don't get me with mtx. Full prize games have more mtx than some gacha games.
