Everyone needs to stand together and boycott the game until they get the message that no one wants or likes gachas. It is unacceptable in this day and age, if companies want to make money off of new characters they need to make them DLC not multi-hundred dollar investments.

Iv given up the fight. Diablo immortal was the tell all. As long as there are people who have money to throw at games like it's nothing then there's nothing we really can do about it unless you can convince them high rollers to stop

this is still the wrong way ... i mean i totaly get that ppl. dont like p2w games ... but they cant screw over gacha games wich is just a genre like shooters ... im playing a "slay the spire" like game where you have a gacha system but its f2p, you buy the game, play it and you get gold + diamonds just by playing and then you use it to gacha for gods/chars ... but like above, free games are free games, what do you expect by a free game ? specialy if its gacha genre ? if you want a free game where you wont have any advantage from spending money, then go and play LoL or CS:GO or something ... they also have Gachaelements btw. in terms of skins. Ppl. in the west realy need to get over this gacha hate since its not the gacha they hate its the p2w elements, if you take the gacha form a gacha game you have a simple rpg i guess ?! thats not what i want to play. i like gacha, the suprise mechanic, also
overwatch 2 has the good side of loot boxes as you don't need to pay to get the loot boxes, you just earn those by playing lvl up etc

genshin impact, you could just get "loot boxes" for free

i guess this guess has the same things

and

it gives a reason to keep playing as you might get a loot box or two for free

i like gasha as long as there is a free option

1. Video games are not a charity work. When your bar of entry is free, devs still need to get money in order to fund everything (server hosting, maintenance, salaries, budgets for future contents development, ad money, sponsorship and collab deals, etc). DLC model for extra funding only works if either
a) game's name already established from either the franchise (established or not) or external funding; and
b) a completed game; which MMO model is anything but that
What option do they have? Skins or battle pass. Which technically this game has it. But let's be real honest here, most free players won't buy skins unless it really, really, reaaaaaally cater them taste.
Also to note that not all priced games are a guaranteed success. Just like movies.

2. World are still in post-covid recovery phase. A lot of companies are having bad time financially back then, and to make a good completed game would take years or significant preparations to make (which of course assuming a full WFO situations). Not every company are like SEnix who can still alive and have a number of bad games. Nor every game company want to/can pull a Hello Games' move of 'selling your house to actually publish a game and hope to break even from that'

It is also the same for players. Not everyone have the luxury of having the money to buy the next AAA-priced games or consoles. Sometimes, all they have to cruise and balance through bad times in life are their potato laptop/phone and free Wi-Fi.

Companies that use gacha still adhere to the guidelines (https://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/265/1265019/) quite properly. This is not a proper law btw and just agreements between gacha publishers (a form of pity; clear rates of which unit people will get; none of the kompu gachas. Yes, there are more than one form of gacha and people should read more about it). And these days most gacha game devs or game devs that have gacha elements are self-regulating themselves anyway, for the better of worse.
-> Granblue's Monkeygate (this is after the boards are made anyway) and they returning the player's money plus pity implementation (which are followed by most gacha after that)
-> CNBlizzard's roundabout way to make Overwatch boxes still 'directly buy-able' in China while bypassing the laws regulating it;
-> SEnix's War of the Visions debacle and the dishonesty of their rates which resulted in scrunity;
-> Battlefront 2 which should be fresh in everyone's mind.
-> Digital Extremes' immediate removal of paid random Kubrow color generator because they unknowingly make a lootbox.
Also worth noting that (at least in Japan) these kind of incidents are also followed by financial losses and stock prices drop.

5. This might be a controversial take; but players above legal age are fully responsible for their own spending. They can read and calculate the rates, they fully know that they can not get what they want in x pulls, they fully know their own monetary situations, they know themselves (either by self-discovery or others) if they are a completionist or having a gambling addiction (which gacha games encourage these kind of drives). If player knows all of that and still playing said game, by all means they are responsible for their own actions.

And remember; between all of bad gacha stories, there are still people who can play and pay for their gacha while still financially-stable and be responsible with their spending.

Like (maybe) actual gameplay/pc port quality/controller support/gameplay loop/player retention/side contents/balance.

Which is why I say its better to have paid access or have actual cosmetics instead praying on people with a gambling addiction is as low and scummy as a developer can get.

The difference with trading cards is they can be resold for a profit most stingy ass gacha devs dont let you sell your account.

People dont get their moneys worth back in characters though, if you are spending thousands of dollars you should be getting a high tier character at least every $5-$10

You can have a gacha game all they need to do is remove the part of it where you spend money on pulls, make it so pulls are 100% earned in game and no outside force can do anything to it. Sell cosmetics for the characters if they really need money but taking advantage of people with gambling addictions is super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scummy.

Gacha games are fine if they are done right. Genshin Impact is obviously a shining example. Another one is Guardian Tales. Just depends on the developer.

You can complain about gacha all you want, just dont make it locked behind a paywall. The only reason I like gacha games like genshin is because I can still get the banner character or 5 star character without paying. They can change or remove the gacha aspect, I really dont care since I only use them if the game gives me enough currency to do 10 pulls.
