is this worth trying out prior to Steam releasing it?

apparently you can DL it off https://www.toweroffantasy-global.com/download.html where for a windows install you have a file called TofMiniLoader_official.wg.intl which sets it up, though it says they will release it on Epic and Steam.

Given it's f2play I imagine both companies will put out promos (free stuff) to try and get players. I take it this would mean your gameplay is platform-specific and it would not share player bases?

If Epic can't fight Steam then it makes me wonder what playerbase would exist for the DDL players.

Also seems there are app store / google play users having a mobile version and I don't know if that's distinct server or not.

The current standalone PC version that you can download from the developer's site (https://www.toweroffantasy-global.com/ same as what you linked) is cross platform and cross save with the iOS and android versions.

If ToF's steam version follows what the few similar games did (Honkai 3rd is the only example I know of) then the Steam version will not sync progress with any other version of the game.

In terms of if you should play the game now or wait it really depends on if you're cool with waiting another 4+ months for the steam version to come out.

I have no idea what the Launch Promos for the EGS/Steam ToF versions will be like. They may just rerun the current set of launch events.

I doubt they'll be platform specific considering it's not by mihoyo and it's an MMORPG in theme.

The launches might have different promos tho and that'll definitely be interesting, but one thing to note is that the current standalone version of the game has content being released daily and updates to areas as that content releases so if you wait you will get alot more to play without the downtime of waiting but the problem with that is you lose out on pre registeration bonuses and all the other events that are going on now through till whenever steam/egs versions launch.

Tl;dr: get now for events and to follow the story day by day or wait till steam/egs to get their events + not be content gated.

Not worth it, the games UI is in chinese, did not even try to go further since i cant even make settings. But the only part of this being global release is it not being region locked, but there is no english.

? What part isn't in English? Everything I saw was English only.

Maybe the previews for upcoming steam release include english translations while the cross-platform PC currently out isn't?

Made a separate topic bout it, its either you have to do something specific to get english version or the game checks the operating system and sets the game to one of the 8 supported by the game languages and if the OS is not one of those it rolls back the game to chinese, which is a garbage setting, be it as it may there is no manual language setting for this game.
BTW im NOT going to change the operating systems language to english just cause some braindead moronic developers cant make a manual language selection.

I'm pretty sure most games check the OS language settings to automatically set it to the correct one. I creeped your profile to see ur playing in Poland? Unsure if they have official polish support yet. It really doesn't take much to change the language setting to English just to have it for the game but that's your choice. Also I assume you're on windows 10/11?

Can you drop a screenshot of that cause all the websites I've looked at tell me there are 2 boxes one for VO and one for text.

ANYWAY... back to the original topic...

A lot of games on Steam are not able to link to an account outside of Steam. It is the safe bet that ToF will be like this, till we get an official word saying otherwise. If Steam integration matters to you, then it's best to wait. If it's not that important, then go ahead and install.

Mobile and PC are not separate, they both access the same servers. It you want to be able to play ToF on both, then you should get the ToF client and forget about Steam.

That being said, in regards to the OP's question, you'll probably have done all the content by the time the steam release rolls around, they push the term MMO but its not actually an MMO its 110% just a time gated gacha, the story so far is pretty generic at best and some of the voice acting is super flat, they can't spell the name paul correctly and combat is very eh

You'll be finished with the game before steam rolls around :)

You can try it for free now, and see if it is even worth waiting for a steam client. Of course, I would not assume you can link it to steam later.

We don't know when it will come to steam, it could be the end of the year. So you don't even have to rush to try it. But if you are bored you can give it a spin and that would answer your questions pretty quickly.
