Did I miss something?

So last night I was playing and I was supposed to go talk to Archon Elric or whatever. I had just gone there for the first time, shortly after Zeak took his sister with the shady people to save her. Next thing I know when I come into the game today, we have what's her name talking about not being sure if she is Shirli or Nemesis and I'm supposed to go to sector 7, but I've not even done jack all in the starting area yet.

Did I miss something? Was there a huge glitch? Is this how the story is supposed to unfold and I'm supposed to be confused because they did something to me? Man, I'm still exploring and getting a feel for thing, I don't want to move on yet. And, I just want to know if something weird happened, or this as it should be.

You can skip large chunks of the story, I had the same thing happen, I talked to the guy and ended up going to Sector 7 and Vera. If you are playing by the story this is not the route you want to go you want to backtrack to the first world and talk to the dude at base of the tower, check your quests in the menu both are probably now active.

Yeah, I thought Missed some stuff, I tried watching a video to see what I missed, and it filled in some of the gaps, but not all of them, and I noticed they made some minor adjustments to it since launch so I'm not totally sure.

I felt the same way. But I think the first part of the story is supposed to be in retrospective. You lost your memory and it gets restored by Archon Elric. I believe the story you play in the beginning are your restored memories and thus play in the past. And then you are suddenly in the present and got your memory back - or maybe only a part of it - and are supposed to help Shirli find her brother. At least that's what I made of this rather confusing part.

No, I found out in another thread that it's something they changed recently in the game. They basically fast track you to the higher level areas, for whatever reason, without telling you or giving you a choice in the matter. You can ignore it and keep manually turning on the tracking for your current quests. You can't un-spoil the big Nemesis reveal, but you can still play the rest of the story if you want to. It's a constant struggle though because you have to keep turning on the tracking and going to the next area will remain your primary task.

I don't mind if they want to allow people to fast track to the higher areas and skip the story. I actually kind of appreciate it as a choice. But it should have been a choice. They should have given me the option to move on or finish what I was doing instead of trying to force me to do it. Some of us are lore nerds, some of us are here for the story.
