How bad are Microtransactions in ToF?
Hey everyone! I got a couple questions...

1. How bad are Microtransactions in ToF?

2. How much does a skin cost?

3. I love grind, but absolutely despise it when it's time-limited (like a Battle-Pass). How does the grind work in ToF?

Not trying to be negative about the game, just trying to figure out if I should play the game or if it'd be a waste of time for me, personally. Thanks!

1. Microtransactions aren't that bad compared to other games, you can get fairly far even if you are F2P, people tend to whale on their faves. If you are the kind of player who wants to max out weapons, I have bad news for you as it will take quite a bit of money to max that aforementioned weapon.

2. I assume you meant the event costumes, those are entirely up to luck. Some of the players got lucky and manage to get it with the free coins, some are not so lucky and had to spend 9k Dark Crystals on it (Which is like 6 multi worth of crystals).

3. Grinding-wise, story and some explorations are gonna be time-gated, this is to make sure you don't get burnt out from over-grinding. Battle pass-wise, you'll find it easy to complete all level of the battle pass IF you did your weeklies (Which isn't much of a grind tbh.).

It's not pube-ripping bad, but it's bad.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Depends. In PVE It's fairly pay2fast BUT since most content which could be considered "hard" are done in cooperation, the worst that can happen to you is being a bit less useful than others in a team. So nothing mandatory I think.
In PVP it's also hard to judge. PVP is normalized (all characters are considered 6* (character progression very much like genshin) and I think armor matrix doesn't matter ? But you do need the character at least once to play it, and event characters can be hard to get in F2P unless you're lucky. I haven't played PVP since a while but I remember than most player played Nemesis, it was so strong until meta settled and people started to figure out meta.

Don't forget it's a whale gacha. You prolly can do a decent F2P team in a reasonable time (especially with VERA and its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rewards), but if you dare get interested in an event character, you better count euros by the tenth for having it at least once, and by the hundred to achieve 6*.

It's really bad and GL is especially cruel to their customers. Other regions (CN/SEA/JP/etc) got top up resets, better battle passes and better bundles. On top of all that..... GL has had translation errors that massively changed the power of their gacha units (of course not in favor of the player) customer service did nothing for people who spent money.

Battlepass, if you pay for the premium one and just play normally and do all your weekly quests... you'll fill it out before it expires. It gives a lot of currency for upgrades.

Cosmetic microtransactions - there were a few costumes that were gacha only and they would cost you as much as 80? Pulls on a character banner to get.

Whales in this game can rapidly progress and outscale F2P and low spenders by like a factor of 5.

What I recommend doing: Getting the battlepass and monthly supply pass. Everything else is optional. The battlepass runs for about $10-$20 and the supply pass is $5. If you are a whale then buy the weekly supplie things and all the gift packages.

Its super p2w.
The game isn't good either. Its a trashy mobile game that bleeds your wallet dry.
Don't listen to the whiteknights, the game is bad like all mobile mmo out there.

China and korea know that anime fans can't resist that's why they choose this setting.
Also many mmo fans are desperate for a new mmo they can play, the problem is there are no good mmo on the market anymore, unless you want to replay some old classics.

i would say it's semi p2w, there's meta team etc, i spend a total of around 7k but i still lack in certain aspect

game isnt pay to win at all i have dumped any money in the game and i got all my currency and stuff used from gacha pulls just by exploring

Don't listen to them the payment options are heavily geared towards P2W but you can get the same tiered gear if you're patient. Almost every "Whale" on my server has quit the game or chargebacked cause they vored all the content in one go due to inflated numbers and then had nothing to do.

Play this game smart, Play F2P Aside from Cosmetics.

As for skins? It's all gacha related so could be 5$ or 1000$
Max price so far has been 200$ but gunna change to 1000 when race car goes live.

OP, I assumed you loves grinding for gears and other materials, that's what you meant? then i hope you love Stamina system, aka Vitality, which is used to unlock loots. you only get 180 Vitality per day, and every time u use them it cost 30 vitality, so that's not very grindable is it?

Well you can buy Vitality pot for 50 dark crystals for the first buy of the day, 1 Vitality Pot gives you 60 Vitality. not enough? well buy more! 2nd vitality pot cost 100 dark crystals, and the third and cost more and so on. will you be willing to spend limited dark crystals that you get from grinding overworld? and of course equipment grinding also relies on luck, no guarantee you will get your loot every time you use the 30 Vitality. And when you do get the equipment there's no guarantee you will get the stats that you want.

When you're starting and exploring the world collecting chests you will get these Dark crystals, and they are not renewable, it seems like generous at first but that's because you're in a honeymoon phase. you can google or just search YouTube how much dark crystals can a players get if he's f2p/spender/whales. Basically on average f2p gets under 3000 dark crystals per month if you set aside exploration and events rewards.

What you use these Dark crystals for? mainly for gambling. a limited weapon banner is what actually matters, and it cost 150 dark crystals per pull, you need 80 pulls to hit 50/50 chances to get the rate up weapon, and 120 pulls to "guarantee" the weapon. basically 18000 Dark crystals if you want a limited banner weapon and you will certainly want them, standard banner weapons are SR weapon in disguise to keep f2p playing this game.

At this point, you will be tempted to spend at the shops, which i would argue not to, but use your own judgement if you think Dark crystals are cheap or not.

As for the skins, there's the skins "event" that's just basically gachapon machine, the rate is abysmal, you basically need to pull and clear the gachapon itself and that cost somewhere 9500-10000 Dark crystals. there's other cheaper option but just mid design some of them you can buy directly with 1280 Tanium. Lastly Battlepass skins, that one pretty much self explanatory.

TLDR: it's that BAD

Very informative and helpful replies, guys. Thanks a lot! To reply to some of you:
Yes I love grinding for gear and loot. I hate everything that resembles a pachinko machine (aka loot boxes), I prefer loot immediately dropping on the ground Diablo-style, or even better, outright buying the weapon/character/skin you want directly from the ingame shop, from a set price, no bs.

I also hate time-limited Battle Passes because that creates FOMO and honestly who can keep up with the extremely grindy Battle Passes in all of the games nowadays??? It's getting ridiculous. It really becomes a chore if you don't want to miss out.

So basically ToF checks all the bad boxes lol... And doesn't seem like it'd be a game for me for those reasons (just talking about monetization, loot and grind here though). If gameplay is good I might keep playing. We'll see. Thanks again everyone :)
