Tower of Fantasy

Tower of Fantasy

A game like that, but not gacha?
Am I the only person thinking like this? After all the power creep of Genshin Impact I got no interest on exploring a world that is going to be all messed up in the future. I've Played GI and loved all the first characters, and then, they were all forgotten and power creep. Why no one can make good games like these without this ♥♥♥♥ system? Well... Won't lose my time on this again

Play Breath of the Wild?
Came here to say this. It's the first game of this kind, and it's fantastic and far more polished and content-packed than any of these gacha BOTW-like games.

Just wait for Blue Protocol. It should be coming next year hopefully, I personally have high expectations for it and it actually is an actual anime MMORPG unlike ToF.

pretty sure BOTW isnt the 1st open world game tho...

Would morrowind be the origin? or there something older.
Zelda Breath of the Wild is the inspiration behind many of these games; worth it if you already own a Nintendo Switch.

Elden Ring is a different type of game in a sense, but has that 'open world exploration' with a far superior combat system as well as enough content to keep you quite busy for well over 60+ hours (at minimum). Do yourself a favor and don't look up ANY guides or spoilers. You will thank yourself later.

You could also try other (actual) MMOs and similar types of games:
-Elder Scrolls Online
-Genshin Impact (a single player RPG with limited online multiplayer features; gacha isn't required to clear any story content)
-Guild Wars 2 (highly recommended; fantastic exploration and fun even as a pure F2P)
-Lost Ark (can play purely F2P and grind instead of paying)
-OldSchool RuneScape (if you want an older game and don't mind using the RuneLite HD mod)
-Star Wars: The Old Republic (play an Imperial Agent and thank me later)

There's plenty of other games (MMO and otherwise) available to play as well.

Yeah, I should really give credits to Nintendo and buy one, instead of spending money on Trasha. Ive played it before on emulator but I need the console now.

Yeah, I can hear that. It seems like even 2023 might be too soon. Who knows though.

Not sure exactly what it is about that one, but from the limited videos I've seen it might be OK.

Wont give a coin to From Software until they put all ds1 2 and 3 servers back online, so, no ER. Genshin is another gacha, and as powercreep happened to it, I see it will happen on ToF also

honestly before the purples and yellows changed to commons I had no choice but to do burst it was brutal.

Ye sure they removed the lvl skip from retem to kvaris? My friend just returned to pso2 (after playing ToF lol) and I heard they still did the lvl skip... o. o
Kravis is the ice place right? The newest area? It's the only level skip I got and was around LVL 30 something, it doesn't skip you to 60 tho, it gives like 3m exp which got me to around 45 but nowhere close to 60.

Yeah sure but op is not asking for a GTA or a Cyberpunk without gacha, and most definitely isn't asking for Morrowind either. Genshin and ToF took direct inspiration from BOTW and that's obvious.

But for the sake of argument, I could argue Zelda 1 is open world.

Not if you played the Satellite version.

I would say the first Zelda isn't truly open world because of the load/transition screens. But I could see why some would ignore that. However, if you played the satelite version, it had to download the data. reportedly it could take minutes to load the next piece.

So not open world. ^_^

That new take on "open world" is Gen Z revisionism lol
So GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas are no longer open world because of loading screens? Not trying to sound like an ass but come on now.

We can't blame Gen Z this time, I think we have to point fingers at geriatric Millennials.

That said, it's not so serious. What was serious was the load times for those satellite games! We have come a long way.

Those are the 3 good ones, on the list.
Guild Wars 2 is not "F2P" though, since the game, and expansions have to be bought. But it was a really good game for it's genre, and also one of the first to do away with the server concept.
SWTOR was imho better when it still ran on a subscription, but they hold their ground. It just makes me think that it would have been better as a singleplayer game, which is their current focus anyway.

Guild Wars 2 (the base game) is F2P. The expansions are paid, but purchasing the latest expansion includes all prior expansions (something every online game should do IMHO).

Star Wars The Old Republic MMO is also F2P but severely limited. Josh Strife Hayes did a fantastic video on it going in-depth on the benefits and drawbacks of the starting experience. Effectively if you want to do more than the bare minimum of base story content you'll likely need to subscribe (or at least get 'preferred' status) because the severe continued restrictions on F2P (including limiting hotbars and inability to hide helmet or wear the best quality gear) are all locked behind paywalls. It is effectively a 'subscription' game with an optional 'unlimited time' free trial.

What SWTOR does as far as 'free trial' is similar to what FF14 does with restricting players to only playing up to the end of Heavensward and then requiring a monthly subscription if any payment is made on the account for said expansions.
