And then you promptly realize what John is actually trying to accomplish, even though he has no idea because he can't remember. (This is my choice. The entire dialogue is incredibly tragic, and you learn the origins of the hacky sack and playtpus.)
Or when River is being removed from John's memories and it shows all the events you have witnessed so far being altered while she is being deleted.
Or that scene or the very end when they are last shown holding hands as the Moon comes into view, and then John flatlines.
There really are a lot of great scenes to choose from in this game.
Second moment I got a little emotional was when Johnny is looking for River at the movie theater and you think River stiffed him, but then she walks out and you're all like, Aww.
Third was near the end of the game when they are kids sitting looking at the start. All those dramatic revelations at that point, mostly The Rabbit and The Lighthouses. The Lighthouses give so much insight into how River feels just going through life. it was just so...
Then there was River being hauled off, the montage of Johnny's life being changed... When River's theme starts and she walks through that NASA doorway ;_;
Finally the moment where they hold hands in the shuttle. Felt the sad in the pit of my soul.
It was great.
Only got one Brother.
River walks in.
Holding hands - 16 pixels that ripped this big guy apart.
The memory when they decide to buy the lighthouse, seeing River happy makes me happy.
"The ending isn't any more important than any of the moments leading to it.
"The important thing is that over here, they are happy."
It seemed to me a kinda silly thing to get obsessed about, even with the "Syndrome". So after I dried my first few tears, I headed to Wikipedia to read up on the story. And then as I read the synopsis, the shoe finally dropped: River became obsessed because she realized he'd forgotten their first meeting, their promise. And she couldn't tell him about it.
That little revelation came out of nowhere and hit me like a sucker-punch. And suddenly all the pieces fell into place, and I was weeping like a girl the rest of the evening. Bittersweet game. I love it.
If Kan Gao is ever in Shanghai, the drinks are on me. :)
Same here. Those bunnies.... :( I think I figured it out while playing it but not initially. If not for me playing it through a few sessions it would have probably dawned on me after finishing it the same way it did to you.
I'm not ashamed to admit sobbing, like a child suffering their first injustice, at the end of the game.
