Spoilers- What are the saddest moments in the game for you?
For me, the part where you find out about the origin of the Platypus was really moving for me and also incredibly thoughtful. This moment was so special to her that she kept the toy for so long and yet at the same time he did not remember it made it really sad.

While the ending was sad because they were altering the memory of the person he loved so much, I realized it the moment Eva left on her own, the long distractions and action game that came before the music and scenes kicked in severely lessened the impact for me :(

Same for me, when you find out about the platypus.

"We'll regroup on the Moon, silly."

And then you promptly realize what John is actually trying to accomplish, even though he has no idea because he can't remember. (This is my choice. The entire dialogue is incredibly tragic, and you learn the origins of the hacky sack and playtpus.)

Or when River is being removed from John's memories and it shows all the events you have witnessed so far being altered while she is being deleted.

Or that scene or the very end when they are last shown holding hands as the Moon comes into view, and then John flatlines.

There really are a lot of great scenes to choose from in this game.
I was saddened first at the dancing in the lighthouse scene. I guess it was that I was digging the story and characters up to that point and the music hit just right and man that was a good feeling.

Second moment I got a little emotional was when Johnny is looking for River at the movie theater and you think River stiffed him, but then she walks out and you're all like, Aww.

Third was near the end of the game when they are kids sitting looking at the start. All those dramatic revelations at that point, mostly The Rabbit and The Lighthouses. The Lighthouses give so much insight into how River feels just going through life. it was just so...

Then there was River being hauled off, the montage of Johnny's life being changed... When River's theme starts and she walks through that NASA doorway ;_;

Finally the moment where they hold hands in the shuttle. Felt the sad in the pit of my soul.
It was great.

These two parts where confusing for me. I was sad, I dont think I can explain it, but I was really happy aswell.. I mean, they are together. Like they always wanted to be.

Platypus.

Only got one Brother.

River walks in.

Holding hands - 16 pixels that ripped this big guy apart.

I wouldn't say 'the saddest' (as the ending is incomparable,) but the first moment in the game that felt like it really hit home for me:

The memory when they decide to buy the lighthouse, seeing River happy makes me happy.
"The ending isn't any more important than any of the moments leading to it.
"The important thing is that over here, they are happy."

The saddest moment for me by far was actually -after- I had beaten the game. I loved the game, and beat it in one sitting, but it felt like something was missing, that the writers had made a mistake. Why? Well, I'd gone through it so fast I'd gotten confused on WHY River got so hung up on John's revelation that he had some shallow reason for initially hitting on her.

It seemed to me a kinda silly thing to get obsessed about, even with the "Syndrome". So after I dried my first few tears, I headed to Wikipedia to read up on the story. And then as I read the synopsis, the shoe finally dropped: River became obsessed because she realized he'd forgotten their first meeting, their promise. And she couldn't tell him about it.

That little revelation came out of nowhere and hit me like a sucker-punch. And suddenly all the pieces fell into place, and I was weeping like a girl the rest of the evening. Bittersweet game. I love it.

If Kan Gao is ever in Shanghai, the drinks are on me. :)

Same here. Those bunnies.... :( I think I figured it out while playing it but not initially. If not for me playing it through a few sessions it would have probably dawned on me after finishing it the same way it did to you.

The entire damn thing.

The thing that will also get me is when everything River was in disappears, and you go back to see everything you just went through gone. Also the song, "Everything is Alright" by Laura Shigihara and Kan Gao gets me everytime

Realizing the nature of River's "Agony of the Bunnies". It hit me hard that ever since John inadvertently revealed to her that he didn't remember their first meeting, everything she did was an effort to communicate and break through to him. When she kept pushing John to describe her last origami bunny, it was heartbreaking because she was so ill and tired and you realize later how adrift she must have felt. All the while John doesn't quite know what to make of it...never realizing that River was trying to help him.

I'm not ashamed to admit sobbing, like a child suffering their first injustice, at the end of the game.

The whole story was sad. River could never tell Johnny about their first meeting, their promise to meet on the Moon, if they couldn't find each other next year. Johnny not knowing why River was making all those origami, thinking River was unhappy with him, instead River only wanted to make Johnny remember. It was really sad, when you, the player realize why River was asking Johnny, what he can see when looking at the origami. So River died without telling about their promise, could never ask Johnny why he never went back meeting her, why only asking her out in high school. And it was sad to me, that Johnny died with all those false memories, forgetting all the happy, and hard time with River.
