...That "Everything's alright" is basically John and River having a conversation with each other.

That just gave the song a billion new levels of sad.

River's condition makes it difficult for her to communicate her emotions. Johnny can see she's sad but he doesn't know what to do about it. A recurring theme of the game is Johnny not really knowing how to handle River's Asperger Syndrome.

Really seem to read you."
I just stood there
Never know what I should do

River is frustrated that she can't communicate what she's feeling the way everybody else can. When Johnny tells her he has trouble reading her, she doesn't know how to respond.

But, there's the chorus:

I'll ask you to fly away with me
Until the stars all fall down
They empty from the sky
But I don't mind
If you're with me, then everything's alright

In the end, it doesn't matter as long as they're together.

Looking at it this way make the scene so, so much sadder.

Also, Johnny's verse 2nd and 3rd lines are about his fear of being unnoticed, and trying to just be confident and move ahead, which led him to hooking up with River in the first place.

But yeah, it's just such a lovely song. I didn't cry at the end of the game, but this song did lead to quite teary eyes.

Oh man... I had to just start browsing the forums when I was almost done bawling over this. I know it's an old post but... kudos to the OP for pointing this out. The game is amazing.

This was, no question, the saddest scene I've ever seen n a game. It's one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen in any media, period. I'm impressed Kan Gao even went there, though I never doubted she'd be back. Eva's odd behavior the next scene just telegraphed it even louder.

But the scene was still horrible and beautiful.
