WHERE is the portal back to the city??

After beating the sandwhale / vortex fight, I return to the 'camp' area where according to my map a portal leading off the left and back to the eternal city has opened up, but i cannot find it for the life of me?? I've tried crossing through on a sand whale (bad call) and there is a spot of 'safe' sand out in the thick of it that seems like it could be the right spot, but there is nothing there. Please help!! Since we fall into the 'void' there is no way to back track to the city any other way

You have to go down to the bottom right. The place you mentioned is activated later by going back to the middle point and then warping in the desert direction.

If you're anything like me, you may have missed the entrance to Broken Hourglass, in the south east corner of Crashed Sandship. If only just found it and I hope that going there will cause the game to open up the route to the city...

The icon on the map was in kind of a confusing place. Should be in a place that makes much more sense now.
