As a programmer, this game made me realize it's not coding I no longer like. I just did an 8 hour shift in this game after buying it. It's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the office that I hate.

Brilliant little coding game that is a must buy for all aspiring programmers looking to learn Python, but also for experienced Python programmers looking for a fun innovative challenge.

Excellent intro to programming. Starting off from manually repeating the same action and working your way to complex state management, Farmer Was Replaced is an excellent guided tour into the world of programming.

Towards the end, there's a big conceptual gap going from "make sure you have the biggest pumpkin possible" and "only harvest the correct sunflower" to "learn and navigate arbitrary mazes" that needs something in between. I've been coding for 25 years so I know the different ways to solve it, but it's a fairly large jump over all the previous goals. A number of things are gated behind being able to solve this as well, which may frustrate younger players.

Overall an extremely enjoyable diversion, and I look forward to seeing how my kids handle it.

The game offers a unique and engaging gaming experience, setting itself apart from other coding games with its progression all happening on the same level. It appeals to both beginners and experienced coders, offering a simple, slow-paced experience for beginners, and plenty of room for min-maxing by more experienced coders. The beautifully simplistic art style contributes greatly to the game's overall chill appeal. The developer(s) are attentive to player feedback and iterate fast on bugs and feature suggestions.

What sticks out the most after playing through and automating the entire game is the maze feature. I think it demonstrates what great potential this game has for similar coding puzzles.
With a bit bigger experience tree and some more end-game content similar to the maze, as well as some better error handling in edge-cases, this game would be a must-buy for anyone interested in programming.

I rarely say this about a coding-game, but this one is for everybody!

I'm an intermediate hobby-coder and had no problems whatsoever understanding this game.

It's so well-explained, even a beginner will have no trouble getting decent automation set up and feel the satisfaction of a fully automated farm!




The Syntax is super easy, really Python-Like.

The Dev went for a great approach: Each new game-mechanic gets explained in two ways.
A short explanation for Programmers, and a really in-depth explanation for beginners, with examples and everything.

He really went the extra mile here, the Documentation is so superb, even if you can't code, you can still get things done in this game!




Oh the farming... It's done so well!

You start off with farming Grass, which gives hay... Then you can plant bushes, which give wood....
Hay and wood are needed to buy carrot-seeds...

You see where this is going: Each new crop is based on the one that came before.


THIS IS AWESOME!!

Why is this awesome?

Because in soooo many farming-games, you eventually land at the "god-crop" and end up planting only that crop, because it earns the most money.

This game prevents that neatly! Yes, you can plant only pumpkins... until you run out of seeds!

This is one of the ways this game motivates you to build clean and logic code from the ground up.

Because everything that follows, depends on what came before, all the way back to simple hay.


Also: Some crops have Rules attached! Trees and Pumpkins got special mechanics! Even the humble Bush that you had from the start makes an amazing return in the endgame!




I had this on my whishlist forever and I'm super satisfied with the result!

This is one of the great ones, and I sure hope it gets the attention it deserves!

From what I've seen it's one dude developing it - This game is as indie as it gets.

You can really see how he put his heart into this game, from the well thought out game-mechanics, to the super-clean UI, to the supreme documentation for every single function.

In times where most game-studios are only interested in selling lootboxes, we should all support people like this Dev, who provides a handcrafted product of value.

The Dev is active in the Discord and provides help & support, even game-fixes on bug-reports are done within hours. :)

The best compliment I can make the game: I learned a few things playing it, and you will too.

I finished the game now. What a ride!

Any game that makes me code a maze-solving algorithm is an instant 10/10!

I can't recommend this game enough. For the beginning / intermediate coder it's a must-have!
For the professional developer it's a nice distraction. There's something for everybody in this game.

there seems to be a feature in the code that looks something like this:

I started playing and then lost a full day. 10/10 would reccommend
