The Farmer Was Replaced

Game is primarily using the integrated graphics instead of dedicated graphics card
Is anyone else getting an issue where the game is primarily using up the integrapic graphics instead of my dedicated graphics card? This is mainly happening on my laptop. Its has a 2080 super in it but when I launched the game, it made my computer over heat. Checked in the task manager, and saw the integated graphics has a 63% utilization while my 2080 super is at 2 percent. I have the dedicated graphics set as default in the nvdia control panel and also tried disabling integrated graphics. When integrated graphics is disabled, it still runs, but the game is extremely laggy and slow

"integated graphics has a 63% utilization"

so what's the problem when even IGPU is not 100% utilized?
you need heater?

Easy fix.

The following differs from the global setting as it targets the program specifically. It's not always a good idea to set the dedicated GPU for global use.

  1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel and go to the "Manage 3D Settings" page.
  2. Select the "Program Settings" tab.
  3. Select the game from the drop down list "1. Select a program to customise". In mine, I didn't see the app so I had to add it by pressing the "Add" button next to the drop down. It wasn't in the pop up window either so I browsed to the program folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Farmer Was Replaced" and selected the program "TheFarmerWasReplaced.exe". NOTE: If your steam games library is in a custom location, the path before "steamapps" will differ.
  4. Once the program is selected in the drop down, check the next drop down "2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program". Mine was set to use the auto option which defaulted to the integrated GPU. If it doesn't show using the dedicated GPU, then open the drop down and select the option to force using the dedicated GPU.
  5. Press "Apply" at the bottom of the windows and you should be good. Worked for me.

I hope that makes sense. I created a screenshot but don't know how to display it here.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have a driver issue.

Did you resolve this problem and if so, what was the solution?

Hey, on windows 10 and 11, NVIDIA Control Panel is not how you manage this anymore.
Go into windows settings app, and search for "Graphics settings" or something like that.

This will allow you to change the graphics performance preference for either microsoft store apps, or regular desktop apps.

choose desktop app option and browse to the game's exe file. It will then be added to the list. from the list, you can click on the game to show and select a hidden button "Options" to set it to prefer power saving(integrated) or high performance(NVIDIA gpu).

Thank you very much for the info. I had no idea about that setting and I'm sure this will save me some pulled hair in the future.

When I wrote my response, the game was using the integrated GPU. Changing the setting in the NVIDIA control panel did force the game to use the NVIDIA GPU. However, since this is Windows, having the same configuration setting in multiple locations all conflicting with each other is so very, well, Windowsy :)
