Even in single player the battles can drag on and on. Not saying it's bad, it is more of preference. Some like the long tactical battles others like the shorter.

Because when you play with friends separate combat is not a problem. Slower or not.
Another thing worth mention is that if you have W1 then maybe W2 is not worth to buy now as game feel more like expansion than sequel.
Who are you to tell people how to play their games?
As for Warlock 2: it made a solid first impression. Feels and plays like Warlock 1, but with added features. I really like the quick gameflow of this series. Still, not sure about the limitation on the amount of cities you can grab, before corruption sets in. Five cities seems like a very low limit, even on a small map. What happens when you get past that treshold, how steep is the price? Besides that, great game.
Care to elaborate? Curious about other AoW3 opinions.
That was a feeling after first look. The game started for me with very poor performance and awful russian translation. To add I was puzzled on how to change any settings - the game asked for restart and after that I found nothing actually changed. Finally I found the way to set video settings and game language before starting it (and still have to do that a new every time I'm starting the game).
Then I was reading a quite beautyful story which was interrupted by game flow with sentences like "Now you die! And die badly!" That was so contradicting with the story... Then went combat were I found very strange approach where units had multiply men but combat strength was not affected by casualties.
After so straitforward Warlock I now have to understand many more strange concepts like Damage = 10 + (Attack - Defence). And so on. I understand that this is very different game, but that is my feeling atm.
If I had to point at either it is down to which you prefer in regards to the army raising and direct combat aspect.
I would read other reviews actually. After watching the lets plays, other reviewers, own expereiences and feedback, the GameSpot review is somewhat off on that aspect IE not fanboy rage due to the score.
