killing hares too difficult
too fast and too difficult to see, and then too difficult to hit

I totally agree with this post. That quest to kill 20 is still one of my last ones to finish. (almost there though).

I just gave up on the kill 3 hares thing and issued a refund. What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up tutorial quest if there are no hares to see with all the bushes every 2 meters and that is while your character is moving like a snail. No time for this ♥♥♥♥.

Literally what I just did though I am not gonna refund just yet. Getting to this point I was having fun...then it asked me to kill 3 hares and all of a sudden the game grinded to a halt and i had ZERO fun finding them and trying to kill. I ended up finding 3, all of which got away from me without getting a shot to hit. I quit and wrote this post.

It's not easy, but its doable,
There appears to be 6 or more spawnpoints for hares south of the road, east/north east of the quest giver/merchant. It might have been a lucky RNG, but it felt like there were more at night (could be a false positive).
No need to run, on the contrary - up your archery and sneak.
If you're having trouble with the bushes, either turnd own your foliage detail, or/and forage them, run back to merchant, adn walk back slowly to the east. You'llsee about 2 to 4 hares walking on the right down the hill to the road on the left, or on the small rocky ridge on the right.

The devs have read similar posts to these about the hares and are planning changes.

Use the lures (bait piles). Either build walls to make a corridor or use a natural formation - place the bait pile in the middle and find yourself somewhere to crouch and wait - preferably at an elevation. Any bow will do, as even the base one is a one-shot kill on the rabbits.

Usually one or more will approach within seconds of you placing the lure down, as long as you've put it in an area where they spawn. Aim just a bit over their heads, rinse and repeat.

If you let them reach the bait pile, then they'll consume it (after three I think), but the bait pile will eventually disappear on its own, so make more than one BUT only put one down at a time.

I got majority of my hares by a large rock and where 3 roads meet near the pond where you spawn into the main island. there are usually about 4 of them running around i sat on top of one of the rocks and just sniped them from there, just waited for them to stop moving and shot my arrow, no running around. it took a game day for them to respawn but wasn't hard at all to be honest. while i waited for respawn i explored around and found the hard wood and hard resin and other chests to buy upgrades and got a few more as i was exploring over all it took me 4 game days to get them all. standard lure is also good but i never used mine.

Reading this makes me lose interest in the entire game. I wasnt playing this for a RL hunting simulator. Killing some rabbits in the games opening hour shouldnt need this intense of a workaround.

If you are not sprinting around everywhere, they are easy to find, i did that hunting quest in about an hour or so, like I said in my last comment in this post. Its not hard at all if you don't sprint everywhere and scare them off.

What? You have to go look for them it's not like WoW where they stand there and wait for you, it's a beginning quest to teach you how to use weapons :CryingGhost:.

I must of gotten lucky I found three very quickly and killed them with a primitive spear. I see rabbits all the time. (on starting island)

i really dont see the big issue here, i killed the 3 hares near where you enter the starter island. make a bow and your done in 5 minutes. the kill 20 quest on the next island i completed in about 30-40 minutes , seems players dont like a challenge these days just want to be spoon fed rewards and gear .
