Literally what I just did though I am not gonna refund just yet. Getting to this point I was having fun...then it asked me to kill 3 hares and all of a sudden the game grinded to a halt and i had ZERO fun finding them and trying to kill. I ended up finding 3, all of which got away from me without getting a shot to hit. I quit and wrote this post.
There appears to be 6 or more spawnpoints for hares south of the road, east/north east of the quest giver/merchant. It might have been a lucky RNG, but it felt like there were more at night (could be a false positive).
No need to run, on the contrary - up your archery and sneak.
If you're having trouble with the bushes, either turnd own your foliage detail, or/and forage them, run back to merchant, adn walk back slowly to the east. You'llsee about 2 to 4 hares walking on the right down the hill to the road on the left, or on the small rocky ridge on the right.
Usually one or more will approach within seconds of you placing the lure down, as long as you've put it in an area where they spawn. Aim just a bit over their heads, rinse and repeat.
If you let them reach the bait pile, then they'll consume it (after three I think), but the bait pile will eventually disappear on its own, so make more than one BUT only put one down at a time.
Reading this makes me lose interest in the entire game. I wasnt playing this for a RL hunting simulator. Killing some rabbits in the games opening hour shouldnt need this intense of a workaround.
