Can all recipes be found in loot or do we have to buy the ones that are for sale?

I think I found one in loot at some point. Pretty rare though.

The armor/weapon recipes that you buy and find are all just cosmetically different from the other sets, EXCEPT the Cuirass or Cuirass - Cloak (depending if you want a cloak visible or not). And for the Cuirass its Centurion > Soldier > Scout.

The ones you loot cannot be purchased, the ones you can purchase cannot be looted. The game gives you around 5000 more gold than you need to buy every item on the merchant so just get the important stuff and skip the tinctures and armor/weapon skins until your gold starts piling up.

Forge Hammer, Greater Forge, Steel Ingot and Fire Arrow are the good things from the merchant and I forget the early things you buy from him - simple hammer and bird feeder maybe?

^ This, but there are some recipes that can only be found via the chests scattered about - unfortunately, one of them on the starting island is for the tanning rack, which is an important one.
